i have a 2004 exmark laser 60'' model lz27kc604. The problem is with the right side hydro.. the crew leader says never had a problem with it however the mower has been sitting 2 weeks and now we went to winterze it and right side hydro is surging and groaning.. then it works ok and now its just at a stand still. There is a lot of oil around some areas but dont think its from hoses? i replaced one hose 2 months ago and all was fine,i checked reservoir and it was low so i filled it..and then checked oil with a magnet and no metal in it..
my problem is i am ready to but a $575 hydro pump from dealer but unsure if thats the problem?? also i tried to bleed system of air by driving it... now i read its supposed to be off the ground, does it really matter?? piston slapper?? ur the exmark guro..thanks guys

just read a bunch of threads wondering if my issue is an air leak and not a hydro pump?? which hoses would suck air ?

Might be the front seal? Or o-rings ?

I read in my owners manual that if air is present to loosen up the two allen headed bolts on top of the hydro pump to let the air out..

If it is sucking air then it would likely be evident in the fluid in the resevour, it would be a golden color with lots of small bubbles, very noticible. If all of the hoses/fittings are In good condition then the problem is inside the pump, either seals or your thrust bearing is on its way out and caused one or more of the pistons in the cylinder block to seize up

Either way youll have to remove the pump from the mower for replacement or repair. Get a parts diagram from this link below, take the pump apart and inspect for damage. In my experience the majority of the time the thrust bearing is the culprit. If you catch it early enough the pump can be repaired.

More than likely the pump is a hydro-gear p-series...

When disassembling the pump make sure you mark the orientation of the charge pump on the pump itself. If it is assembled 180* incorrectly the hydro pump will not work

ok, here we go again... i worked on mower today and i filled the hydro tank then lifted mower off the ground, then put in forward and ran it for a while and only one wheel was turning the other i could stop with my hand!! so i let run some more and now it seems to work fine again.. no issues except still has a few leaks.now i am really confused and wonder if i should do anything at all or take off hydros and get a rebuild kit?? Also where do i get the kits for hydro gear? never seen them offered at exmark...........

Whaddaya mean no issues??????? Leaks are an issue! Where is it leakin from? You might wanna fix the leaks, no?
If the pump is leaking, you need a SEAL kit, Hydro Gear doesn't make a rebuild kit. Any internal parts are sold separately.

i guess i should re phrase and saay it works great but i still need to address leaks.. crimps on hoses are known causes i heard.. ok so if hydro gear doesnt make a rebuild where to go to get parts separately?? or maybe find a rebuild shop?? AAAARRRRGH!!

Like i stated before, more than likely you have a P series pump. But unless you post some model/serial numbers from the pump in question we cannot say with complete certainty whether that seal kit will work for you. It appears to be correct, but i dont like to guess...

As far as parts, LOOK at the link i provided you. As Fish said all of the parts can be ordered through hydro-gear individually, Including the correct seal kit for your pump!
