View Full Version : 1 Ton pickup (duellie) thoughts

Need to buy a truck to yank a 12,000# GVW dump trailer around.
Highest truck on the list is a 1996 Dodge 3500 4wd pickup. I think I can buy it for a very fair price, however I just can't get over the pickup part. It seems like I'm going to be buying a heck of of a lot more truck then I need, but without any of the benefits of the larger truck (namely dump bed).
I guess I'm just wondering what others views on 1 ton pickups are?
Anybody know anything about putting a dump bed on a 1 ton pickup chassis?

Well if you have to drag around that trailer then you do need it. And I have a dump insert in my truck and love it. Much cheaper than going for a full mason dump. And 1 tons are probably the best trucks out there, especially a dually because of extra stability while towing and hauling. Have heard they like tires but what can you do

I love my 04 dodge 4 door 4x4 tows anything I hook to it the most I have went over the scales with so far is 23,840lbs. with my goose dump and granite chips no issues towing or stopping I do all my own service work rotate tires every 5,000 miles they will last longer I have close to 70,000 on this set and have an easy few thousand left on them..I ran gassers all my life till this truck I will never go back to gas..as far as duallys go they are the best truck for towing stability hands down after all they are designed for work thats what they are good at..one more thing I will only own a cummins its one AWESOME motor..

Tires yeah: I don't have any need to spend an extra almost $400 bucks to get rubber on the truck twice a year

I bought a gmc c4500 Kodiak with a Monroe truck bed on it. No issues.
Its way to big, no not really because the half dozen times a year I rent a mini x etc I don't even worry about load/stopping or getting pulled over

What other trucks do you have? I like having a dump truck because its faster Nd easier than the trailer
