View Full Version : Sending interest letters to prospective commercial clients

Has anyone ever sent letters (on company letterheads) to prosepective commercial clients, just saying that you have interest in mowing for them in the upcoming mowing season. I had an idea to do this, but I don't know if it would do any good.

I am just looking for some marketing ideas to land some more commercial accounts.

Tried it this spring and got zero results. Maybe the letter need to have had an offer or something. I should have followed up with a second letter but got busy with residential clients and never got to it.

Commercial customers aren't going to want to have to work for your business. By you just sending them an "interest letter", they then have to respond to that letter and get in contact with you. Most businesses have better things to do than track down lawn care companies to mow for them, especially if they are an established business. Most likely these businesses are having plenty of lawn care companies submitting bids and not just sending interest letters. If you want to submit a bid, call the place, speak with someone to see if they are accepting bids and then get yours turned in.

I'd have to agree that soft sales tactics of the kind where the customer is expected to do much isn't going to help, that more than likely it's going to involve leg work and at least some phone calls.

You could, however, send out the letters...
And then a week or two later follow up.
But you have to follow up, and be ready for answers such as "WHO?!"
From the folks who, letter and all, still haven't a clue as to who you might be.
It still might open some doors, just be aware, like they're saying, letter alone's not enough.
