Gravely Commercial

Gravely® introduces the 2013 changes to the X-Factor decks.

These changes have already gone into production on Pro-Turn™ 400 (http://www.gravely.com/en-us/zero-turn-mowers/Pro-Turn-400-Zero-Turn-Mower/Pages/default.aspx), Pro-Turn™ 200 (http://www.gravely.com/en-us/zero-turn-mowers/Pro-Turn-200-XDZ/Pages/default.aspx) and Pro-Turn™ 100 (http://www.gravely.com/en-us/zero-turn-mowers/Pro-Turn-100-XDZ/Pages/default.aspx) models with a serial number greater than 20,000.

New Red Gravely Commercial Spindles
The spindles have had numerous interior changes to improve reliability and longevity. The new spindles are the same shape and profile as previous black commercial spindles and can be identified by their red exterior paint. These spindles are still covered by a 3-year commercial warranty.

Discharge Opening
The discharge opening has been increased by 10-20% (depending on deck size). This change will improve clipping dispersal, especially in demanding cutting situations.

Optimized Discharge Chute Profile
The chute profile has been optimized for even clipping dispersal and reduced windrowing.

Standard Adjustable Vacuum Baffles
Vacuum baffles will be standard on Pro-Turn™ 400, Pro-Turn™ 200 and Pro-Turn™ 100 models, allowing the deck to be adjusted depending on the conditions for minimum performance.

Note: New spindles, larger discharge openings, and optimized chute profile are also now standard on Pro-Master™ 200, Pro-Master™ 320, Pro-Master™ Rapid XZ, Pro-Turn™, ZT HD, and Max Zoom® models with serial numbers greater than 20,000.

I wanted a gravely bad for operator comfort, but the Exmark edged it out on cut. Too bad this deck wasn't out to try last fall when we demoed. Ended up buying 2 X Series 38 horses with baggers. Wanted Gravleys for the comfort though.

If you dont mind me asking where did theX-Factor not match the Exmark in cut? Reason I ask is my experience was opposite. The Exmark cut fine in ideal conditions but if the grass was wet or thick it clumped and required double cutting.

Quality of the finished cut when we did side by side comparisons with both mowers at the same time, stripe next to stripe. The Exmark was absolutely table top smooth not one stragler. I was impresed after having owned Huslter, Scag, Deere, and Walker. Exmark was a shade better in discharge of clippings vs Gravely too. I wantes the Gravley because of the comfort, but Exmark upped there game in their seats this year too. Not airride but pretty comfortable.

Thinking about buying a Gravely Zt hd52 soon, when will the new spindles, etc be available on it? I looked at on at a local dealer very nice mower for what I need. I noticed it had the black ones. Just curious if I should wait or if he has last years model.

Just an FYI I have the black spindles on three different mowers. One has 2,000 hours and one has 1,600 hours and my 460 only has 236 hours. I have never had a gravely spindle fail. Our OLD Gravely PRO-50 walkbehind had 3,000 hours on it with the original spindles when we sold it.

No problem! If you wanted to drive up to maryland you are welcome to try out my old 160 spare mower I keep here at my house to cut my lawn with. Has 1600 hours on it but it operates almost like new. Just needs a new seat and dampers on the control sticks (they are a bit touchy right now).

Are the new X-Factor decks compatible with older machines (pre 20000 serial number)?

Are the new X-Factor decks compatible with older machines (pre 20000 serial number)?

I checked with Tech Service, and the decks are not interchangeable. The newer units have a different frame configuration for mounting the deck.

Thanks, and let us know if you have other questions.

Hmmm ... How was GMLC able to fit it on his machine then? Maybe his machine has the updated configuration?

My 452 is a 2012 so it is identical to the 2013 400 series.

Thanks GMLC, do you know the serial number range for the 2012 model year? Just trying to figure out if the new deck will fit on my 100 series. Thanks again!

No problem. Just keep in mind the 100 series is a small frame mower unlike the 200 and 400 series so the mounting may be different. Id hate for you to order a new deck that doesnt fit!

So far I haven't been able to get an answer that makes sense directly from gravely. I think their response is contradicted, at least a bit, by your experience with the new deck. Also, my 100 series currently has the x-factor deck so it seems like it would have similar mounting to the larger framed machines (although this may be a bit of a stretch/assumption on my part). Just thinking that if the larger machines can handle both decks and I know that mine can handle the older version, by similarity I'd expect the new version to fit. Gravely's response has me a bit concerned that my logic isn't so logical, though :)

My thinking is if your machine currently has the X-Factor it should work. Although Im not sure how long the XF1 has been around and if it has different versions for different machines? I can understand why its a hard question to answer for anyone. Can you post some pics of your current deck mounting? How old is your 100 series?

Thanks GMLC. I'm having QOC issues with my machine and the only way I seem to be able to get a good cut is by double-cutting. This is on dry grass that is only 4 or 4 1/2" high at time of cutting with the deck set at 3 1/2" and freshly sharpened blades.

Any recommendations on things to check to see if the deck is setup appropriately?

The mounting points on the X-Factor 1 and X-Factor 2 look like they are in the same location based on the pictures in your X-Factor 2 review thread. Guess I'd just like to get a definitive answer from Gravely. The questions I'd like answered are:

1) Is the X-Factor 2 deck compatible with pre-20000 serial number Pro-Turn 100 series mowers?
2) Is the X-Factor 2 deck compatible with any pre-20000 serial number Pro-Turn mowers? If so, which model / serial numbers?

1/4" pitch measured at the blades(1/4" down in the front). Sharp factory blades. My FX1 cut awesome. Plenty of pics in my 452 review. You shouldnt have to double cut. What kind of turf are you cutting?

The 400 series does not hang the deck with chains, it has control rods. The back bracket appears different to me. I could be wrong its hard to tell. Really ProStreetCamaro would know, he has both machines.

I checked with Tech Service, and the decks are not interchangeable. The newer units have a different frame configuration for mounting the deck.

Thanks, and let us know if you have other questions.

Our engineers confirmed that the core deck shells of the Pro-Turn 400 models (pre and post 20,000 serial numbers) are interchangeable, but the chute is not interchangeable between the two.

The decks are not available for purchase as a complete assembly, however.

We are sorry if this caused confusion. Please let us know if you have questions.

How about the 100 and 200 series? Are the deck shells the same on these both ore and post the 20000 serial number?

The core deck shells of the Pro-Turn 100 are interchangeable within the Pro-Turn 100 series (pre and post 20,000), and the core deck shells of the Pro-Turn 200 are interchangeable within the Pro-Turn 200 series (pre and post 20,000). The chute on the X-Factor II deck is wider, so the chute is not interchangeable between the two decks.

X-Factor II deck isn’t sold as a complete assembly, but the deck shell can be ordered separately. All components except for the chute assembly can be transferred over, so the chute and brackets for the X-Factor II deck would also have to be ordered.

The X-Factor II deck is standard on all Pro-Turn 100, 200 and 400 models for serial numbers greater than 20,000.

We hope this helps to clarify.

Thanks.

Decks have stickers saying limited lifetime warranty. Sounds pretty cool. GMLC, you are such a nice person with so much knowledge and advice to give. Thank you for all the help in the past. Gonna go check out some Gravely cuts.
