I was wondering if anyone has seen these hearing protection ear muffs with the radio built in?
I looked on ebay and could not find them.
Does anyone know where to find them and what they cost?
Thought that this type of hearing protection might make for a more enjoyable day mowing.
Thanks for any replies.

Do a search, I know this has been covered many times. Try looking at places like harbor freight, northern tool and those type places. I even saw them at Amazon.com last time I was looking, they were the peltor worktunes. Hope this helps.

What did you say?:D
Check this out. I went to Radio Shack and bought a pair of AM/FM, Headphones that work really good. I think they were 29.95, and I paid the extra 2.95 for their stupid warranty. That was abt 4 years ago. I've replaced them 5 times already! You know how it goes, you go under a tree-branch knocks them off your head and they break.
So I bought two pair, now when they break I switch to my other set and return the broken ones on the way home.:blob3:
So I listen to Stern in the Morning, and Rock in the afternoon and never miss a beat. I know they do block out the noise, but I don't know exactly what their rating is. Check them out;) And can you speak a little louder!

i have a pair with the radio built in by elvex. i am extremely pleased with them. I think i paid around $129.00 two or three years ago, and they still work great. Unlike what sr landscaping said about the radio shack ones, you can drop the elvex hundreds of times, and you pick em back up and keep going. they are pretty well built. The two main brands i hear people taking about are made by Elvex and peltor.

Thank you for your replies.
I did a search on a search engine and found some Peltor Work Tunes for $58.
I think I will get a pair for myself and a pair for my son who is going to help me this year.
He does not want to wear any hearing protection but some day he will see that I am right to make him use it.
Thanks again for your help!!

To let you know you might want to spend the extra money and get the ones with the rechargable batteries. I get a week straight out of mine then charge them for the weekend and ready to go for the week. Alot better than changing batteries.

Husker, what did you say? I can't hear ya. I'll try them, but the "Junk" your talking about still work great! And when they break I replace them FREE!;)
And how about GREAT RECEPTION using a Backpack-REDMAX EB6200, and a Blower Little Wonder 9-HP Honda at the same time.
And what year did you try this "Junk"?
Don't take offense, just wondering? I'm always open to new ideas, and I think this site is great!:blob3:

Peltor makes another pair called Peltor "Selects" which has a digital tuner and a few pre-set stations. They're over $200 if im not mistaken. We have yet to use them...but they sure sound nice!:blob4:

SR I say they are junk because I bought a set new in 2001. They broke right away and I went the rest of the year without them. I bought another pair in the begining of 2002 and they broke too. I did not purchase any insurance.
but the "Junk" your talking about still work great! You even said your self you have to keep taking them back to get new ones. Then you said you bought another pair to keep on hand as backups........ummmmmmmm lets see 29.99 + 29.99 + headache of taking them back all the time = Buy Peltor Worktunes:D .

I tried the peltors, not impressed. Sure it beat no radio, but I couldn't keep a signal, the power switch sucks, and one of the plastic ear covers won't stay on.
The elvix(sp) ones are rechargable, and can adapt to a cd player.

Sony makes a sports radio with ear clips and a band that goes around the lower back of your head. Can wear them with any hat. I don't know how much sound they block, I'd wear a squishee underneath.

I dont mean to put a downer on the topic but you lot are probably damaging your ears. It defeats the purpose of ear protection if you have a radio or other brairing away directly into your ears. There was a study (here I think,) some years ago on "Walkman" type radios etc and the conclusion was that they damage the ears. Its like putting your head up next to your stereo speakers at home and you wouldnt do that,,,,,,would ya!

Definetly not a walkman type radio. With those type, you have to have the volume loud to drown out the noise from equipment, and that can't be good for your ears. I am investing in a set of peltors or elvex this year. I need some good music to get me started and going, plus the hearing protection.

The Peltour radios are NOT using Music to blast or drown out the surrounding environment. You're correct, that would be very damaging indeed.
The Peltours MUFFLE the sound of the outside enviroment using a foam-type sponge inset into the ear cups, surrounded by vinyl padding to make a nice seal. When the Peltours are on your head, you can't hear any normal conversation. Even a lawn mower right in front of you sounds like a window air conditioner in the next room or kinda like a mild bees nest..
Then when you put the radio function of the Peltours on, the MAX Volume is something like 80 DB. Normal person to person conversation is like 90.. So even "cranked", you can hear the music, but it's not blaring..
So it's a TRUE hearing protector.. It's muffling as well as minimizing.
Some guys claim they do use Radio Shack Walkman like headsets.
I'm sure that they are blasting music to play over the noise of the mower, which is just making a very loud unpleasant noise covered up by what we consider a more pleasant one (music).
That is not good, way way too many decibles.
