Went to the swap and shop at the old 63rd street drive in this morning...saw several Stihl and Echo BP Blowers around...going for about $100 to $150, also quite a bit of other commercial grade equipment. Just thinking this would be a good place to check around if you ever have anything stolen. The people selling didn't seem like they knew anything about it or had ever used it.
....just sayin....

Hey guys. I found a great guy to do maintenace and repairs on my lawn equipment. His name is Rob Grant and he has lots of small engine expereince. I recently had him go through all of my equipment and do filter and oil changes and few other repairs. hed me ina nd out quicka nd did what he said plus some.
If you are like me I have found I can make more money working than I can fixing my machines. I am better of paying someone who can do it quicker while I am out doing what I can make money at. However, I have to keep my machines maintained ot I can't work. its a catch 22.
I am glad to have found someone that doesn't act liek he's soing me a favor to work on my machines this month liek most of the shops int he area.
His phone number is 913-660-3928 and his email is gsxr14 then the crazy at sign and then comcast.net

Just a quick question for everyone. Where is the best play to haul brush off to? I had quite a few large limbs down from the storm that hit Independence on Friday night. I got them all cleaned up and onto my trailer, but I am tired of paying Lee's Summit Resource Recovery park $135 every time I take my trailer full with brush. Does anyone have any idea where to take it that may be a bit cheaper? As of now the city has not said that they will be giving free disposal due to the storm like they have sometimes in the past.

Ive never been to tri-star but I will tell you this about Lesco. I tried Lesco seed one fall and had TERRIBLE results with it mainly there being a ton of Poa in the mixture. I will never use it again.
I now get all my seed from Merriam Feed. Had great results with their tall fescues.

Just trying to find a fair price to sell my yards, I will be selling a total of 10, 5 in the Shannon Valley/ Indian Creek Area, 4 in the Nottingham estates area, and one remaining lawn near 127th and Antioch. All the lawns are between college and 135, and between Antioch and Nieman, in south overland park. I charge between $25 and $40 with the average at around $30 or $35. Im terrible at estimating square footages so im not even going to try. If anyone has any Input I would appreciate it, Also if anyone is interested in buying any of the yards please pm Me or respond to this post and I can get you pics, and addresses, Thanks.

Why estimate the square footage? Just get a measuring wheel. Length x width = sqft
What's your reason for selling?
farmboy1285

The reason for selling the yards is I'm going to school in the fall and I'm not interested in coming back just to mow 10 to 15 yards.

Mark David Boresow, 45, of Leawood, KS died suddenly on August 11, 2009. Mark is survived by his wife of 21 years, Julia Ann Boresow, and their children Elizabeth, Emily, Matthew and Jacob. Mark will be missed by his parents Don and Harriet Boresow of Overland Park, KS, and his twelve siblings and their families: Michael, Susan, Steve, Larry, Lori, Jerry, Bobby, Jennifer, Rebecca, Sarah, Amy, and Danny. He will also be missed by his wife's family, Joe and Jane Hecker of Poplar Bluff, MO, and their children and families: Cindy, Laurie, Missy and Brian. Mark was a loving uncle to 54 nieces and nephews, all of whom loved him dearly. He was preceded in death by his brother Dennis and beloved niece Abby. Mark graduated from Shawnee Mission East High School, attended the University of Kansas, and was an active member of the Phi Kappa Psi fraternity. Throughout the years, Mark has coached hundreds of children in basketball, softball, baseball and soccer, and it gave him overwhelming joy to coach his children. Mark, an Eagle Scout, was also a leader in Boy Scout Troop 10. Mark was founder and owner of Boresow's Lawn. His business of over 23 years has touched the lives of thousands of Kansas Citians. Mark was known for his honesty, integrity, and commitment to hard work. He was a dedicated husband, father, brother, uncle, son, coach, employer, and friend. Mark's enthusiasm for life, sense of humor, and never-ending kindness will be missed by all. Funeral service will be held at 1:00 p.m. Friday, August 14, at Church of the Resurrection, 5001 W. 137th St., Leawood, KS. No visitation. Interment in Mt. Moriah Cemetery, 10507 Holmes Rd. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to either Abby's Run for the Heart, Cincinnati Children's Medical Center, Department of Development, 3333 Burnet Avenue MLC 9002, Cincinnati, OH, 45229-3039 or the Kansas Coalition for Autism Research and Training, 650 Minnesota Avenue, Kansas City, KS 66101. Now the fun part begins. Collecting from them. We had an experience with a mngmt. co for a property. Turns out you sign a contract with the mgmt co and not the property. The mgmt co goes chapter 11 and we have to wait for our money. We can't even put a lein on the building we service because our contract is not through them. Congratulations but be careful. I hope it works out great for you!!

They are not all bad just a few. I am always concerned when someone approaches us in the middle of the season for a existing property. I am sure you will do well and I am not trying to in anyway rain on your parade. It is really hard to get new business in this industry without your piers (sp) trying to discourage you.

I know exactly what you are saying! I get a little worried also when someone approaches me late and then tells me horror stories about the other company. For the most part I think they are BS'ing me.
Ill let you know how it goes. Ive been afraid to grow. Im sitting at almost 60 accounts right now and I think something like this could really push me ahead.
It seems though for the last couple years I have gotten a ton of mid season calls due to guys trying like hell to start companies and then taking on to much or doing bad work and going out of business.
I've been around long to know there are bad customers out there. I hope this pans out for me.
Thanks for the advice!

I think he trades in every couple years. I dont think he's up near 1000. Probably closer to 600 or so.
I dont know why he allows his mowers to be kept running. One guy who was there when I was started it and he still does it. The only reason I used to do it was because we would mow 35 - 40 small PV yards that were very close to each other so instead of pulling those cords 40 times a day I would just leave it running for that minute drive to the next house.

need some advice - going to give estimate on large area 50k + aeration job - I know what to charge on regular lawns but have never quoted area this large - I normally give a little price break on anything over 10k but even at that rate it seems too high - it's aeration only, no seeding I was thinking 20 per 1k - sound close??

in st. louis i'm lucky to get $12.00 per k , some guys do it for $30.00 -$40.00 per 10 k , twenty to me is way too high , i would figure in the $8-10 range per k . how do you plan to aerate push type or pull type, to me that makes all the difference.

Thats $1000.00.
Id be shocked if anyone would pay that much. I would probably estimate it at 40% of that depending on the terrain.

This was about 6 years ago and they were both pretty new to the forums and the lawn business. They both had the name " A Cut Above" ( which Im sure probably 4000 companies around the country have that name). Turns out NEITHER of them were registered because another company had it for years.

I dont think so. I think it was just " A Cut Above Lawn Care". After the fight took off both of them checked it out with the state and they both had to come up with different names.

Its a long process. The number is free to get but you have to have your trucks and trailers inspected by a DOT registered mechanic once a year. You will also need a medical card.
Ive been doing this over 15 years between my company and working for someone else. You didnt need one way back when but now you do. I got slapped with over $1000.00 worth of tickets by a State Trooper out in Olathe.
Now Im all registered and its all good. Over the winter will be a good time to get this stuff done. All the new companies will be popping up in the spring so the cops will be looking to hand out some tickets.

They are on 23rd and Lee's Summit in Indep. For more info call Doug at 816-254-5100. Hey Chiefs fans in K. C.....some Q's for you, please!
It sounds like the 7-2 Cincy Bengals are going to sign former Chief Larry Johnson as a 4th running back to help provide insurance behind some guys who've been getting dinged up a little, including our star Cedric Benson.
Bengal coach Marvin Lewis has said "were looking at the future, not the past" in reference to Johnson.
In your opinion, is this approach a wise one?
Was Johnson's problem there more of a team chemistry problem, or not?
If he came here, do you think he could fit in with a current VERY positive locker room atmosphere with the likes & team leaders of WR Chad Ochocinco (Johnson) & QB Carson Palmer, or not?
What are the reason(s) for his poor yd/carry performance so far this year?
Do you think it is based on a general attitude problem, or is there some other factor (like a weaker offensive line, maybe), or is there a combination of factors?

Larry Johnson needs to go away. Thats about the best advice I could give him.
He has ZERO gas left in the tank. Vermiel and Edwards rode him to hard for to long.
From what I understand his bad attitude goes all the way back to HS and Penn State where his Dad let him get away with a lot of BS. He's been coddled his entire life and when someone finally said "no" to him he blew up and he showed his true colors.

That coddling story rings true for a lot of pro athletes as well as people I know in everyday real life!
The general 'hope' here on the radio talk airwaves & the 'net is that if WR Chris Henry could get his sorry life turned around & on the right track (before he was put on the I.R. list recently), maybe the same magic can happen with the likes of Mr. Johnson.
If signed, he'd be getting paid the league minimum for the remainder of this season, and could be cut at any point in time for ANY reason, or none at all.

It's official, Larry Johnson's a Cincinnati Bengal for the last 7 games of the year.
Maybe Marvin Lewis or QB Carson Palmer can assign a chaperone or two from Larry's general peer group on the team to hang out with him to keep him out of trouble. Maybe Ochocinco?
This exact thing was done to degree with Bengal WR Chris Henry who has had all kinds of personal issues, as well as with former Cincinnati Reds outfielder Josh Hamilton before he was traded to the Texas Rangers for needed starting pitchers.

I have a ton left also. Ill probably get back at it tomorrow and Friday.
I did see something about a mix early next week though and then clearing late in the week.
I havent seen anyones winter forecast yet. EVERY single weatherman was dead wrong last year in their winter forecast.

You have to push spread everything? Ouch!
I have a used JRCO spreader for sale. Mounts on a Zero-turn.
Had 3 and only one left after buying 3 Z-Sprays.

you wont want to use it on the surfer, sorry. it is ready for a ztr and foot operated gate, it would take money and parts to convert to a calbe operated gate for use on a stander . we used to have one and it was horrible, the calbe froze all the time despite our efforts. not recommend it at all, but if you want the spreader you are more than welcome to buy it from us

Hey everyone. Wanted to let you all know that I've started advertising on our school lunch menus. It's with a company called LunchTimes. Those on the Missouri side may have seen these come home with your kids. I know not all school districts are participating this year.
I know Blue Springs, Raytown, Belton, Grandview, Fort Osage and Kansas City are serviced with these lunch menus. This saves the school districts money as the cost comes from businesses advertising. It's definitely affordable for our line of work, and with Spring around the corner I wanted to let everyone know. I already snagged Grain Valley, but I know the other areas are open (no lco's are advertising). Shoot me an email and I will send you a proof of what the menus look like and give you the contact info for setting this up.
Take care and have fun plowin on xmas day...
