studying up on this damn comm. pesticide applicato;) rs exam!
How is that going for you? I ordered the study materials but haven't taken the time to study yet. I was hoping to get certified this winter but I doubt that will happen as time is flying by. I talked to a friend in the biz that said it was pretty damn hard, any confirmations on that statement?
Don't know about you guys, but I am ready for spring.

It's a little hard. Not terrible though. Make sure you know the OSHA stuff. I was expecting more of the chemical stuff when I first took it & was pleasantly surprised to find out that I should have focused equally on OSHA regs.

I've got a couple 48" Ferris WB 13 hp single hydros that I am wanting to get out of my garage. $3K for both or $1800 ea. These have very low hours/ because I bought two riders right after starting up so I can do my larger properties faster. They need a little adjustment on the controls because they have been sitting (brakes & ignition only). They do start right up though.

I actually ended up setting up one of their other workers on the backhoe they rented for cleanup. I was a little afraid of tearing up my equipment around all of the debris that was out there. That place is a mess. They're talking 6 months of cleanup. I'm sure I'll end up getting a little OT when I'm not doing anything else. I pulled 80 hours of windshield time last week because they were requiring man-on-site 24 hours a day during the fire. Easy money!

just for my information:
who does residential snow removal? I will not offer this for a year or two, but would like to refer some customers, if not sub it out.
Also, don't worry about my lowballing any of you...I bid some small jobs and lawns last fall for people interested and found that I am actually a little higher than other companies in the area. Not gonna change that, though, my time is too valuable...see ya guys this spring.

I think it will be sooner then that. Ryan L & T does alot of my houses and they are already to starting to green up thanks to the steroids they put on it. If we get this rain this weekend and some more mild days I'm thinking it might be the BEGINNING of March for most of my houses.

if it is very old, i would replace it instead of having it looked at. they are under $200 in j-thomas and easy to change out. a service company will charge around $75 just to look at it. no repair or parts.

My customers want their lawn looking good as early as possible. They want the leafs picked up on a weekly basis even if its a small amount along the fenceline. Most of them are very picky. Take Loys advice about the wood and the breaker bar.
If you can buy a rechargable impact wrench or one that plugs in. They are pretty inexpensive.
Dont worry. I had to go to my dealer once and had mine broken free in my early days before I got air tools. Its better to have the blades nice and sharp.

If anyone in the Belton, Raymore area has any residential contracts that they are looking to dump. I would like to pick up 5 to 10 lawns to care for. I do not have, what I guess people would call true landscaping experience. But I do have 15 years of taking care of my own yard. Unfortunately it won’t show this year, because my wife is pregnant and can’t really do the fertilizing and all of that important stuff this year. And thanks to my neighbors and their lack of care regarding weeds and dandelions doesn’t help any either. So if anyone in this area is looking to get rid of 5 to 10 lawns. Let me know at rwmorton@transystems.com.

Thanks for the offer, but I took it in yesterday to the shop.
Here' a problem for all of you. The cut on the 36 scag is uneven. Take it to get the blades sharpened. Cut still uneven, just not nearly as bad. Realized 3 deck bolts are missing. Install 3 deck bolts and am praying it cuts good today!!! I'll let you know.
If thats not it make sure all your spacers are the same on the casters and on the blades.

Just don't go to croft they are the most rigged jobs I have ever seen.

croft has a new shop here in Grain Valley, I went by the other week to check on prices...6x16ft with side gate= $1800...it has brakes too...thought that was really cheap...I'm glad someone mentioned something about them...thanks.
The cut on the 36 wasnt too bad...I've already checked all the spacers...I had a lot of people who's lawns grew ALOT over the past week and needed to go over them twice anyway...
So I'm on my way home last night on 291 NB and my truck starts making some crazy noises. I decide to pull over. Brake pressure = nil!!!! I'm waiting on a call from my mechanic this morning to see what he thinks it is...My theory is the whole brake housing has fallen off!
And just to throw in another wrench into my plans, I have strep throat...life is so awesome...Need to mow today, no truck and I have strep...and it's below freezing...I think I'll just break down and buy a 10' trailer and get at it today...

Still selling my Stihl BG85 blower. I had it less than 3 weeks and used it less than 1 hour. Runs great, I just don't use it as much as I thought I would.
Paid $234.00 w/tax
Will sell for $195.00 and deliver in the K.C. area

I mow in Raymore and Overland Park mainly...I don't understand your post Vaughn, are you saying the blower isn't worth what I have it priced at?

So I got the call from my mechanic late afternoon yesterday. Drove from Woods Chapel and 470 to Grain Valley with only the calipers holding the front wheels on! $550!!!
The mower did great yesterday, had to double mow everyone. Alot of new customers calling cuz lawn is 8" high (first mowing of the year). Had to pass over one lawn 4 times in first gear.
Got a couple more calls yesterday and another email for estimates. This freeze doesn't help the cause! THanks for letting me vent to you guys over the last few days.

Envision, are you still interested in the blower? I'll take $195 for it.

If anyone knows of a good worker that could work on the weekends or a couple days a week, let me know. Basically just mowing, and some landscaping.
Thanks

Seriously, this is too damn cold to be mowing. I'm trying to mow a church and I am freezing my ass off, sitting in my truck trying to warm up every now and then! Thank goodness for wireless internet and people not securing their access points, I can catch up on emails and just see how cold it really is.
Mott, I am still considering the blower so I should let you know soon - that is if you still have it....
