Hey who has customers that like mum's?
I just got a call from the grower that I get mum's from, and he told me that He over grew this season and has 1000 extra 2gallon mums I already got 400 coming that I am using for a commercial customer, so I said I would pass it on. I have been getting mums from them for 4 years now, and they are awsome.

Info:
2-Gallon pot, the spacing is 24" x 24" and they will touch.
The colors are Red, Yellow, White, Lavender, Bronze, and Orange. There is
at least four shades of every color, so probably about 24 varieties. Like I said these flowers are beautiful. They will be available the first maybe second week of September when the flowers will just start to crack open.

The cost is 11.95 per. 2gallon. We can discuss pick up / or delivery. They also grow in Bushel Baskets, 1/2
Bushel Baskets, and Pecks (1/4 bushel basket) I can get pricing.

Let me know if you are interested in any, or need more info.

Thanks
Hershey

Very nice Ryan® Ren-O-Thin Power Rake

6.5hp Briggs Motor. Newer blades underneath.

* Powerful Briggs & Stratton 6.5-hp gas engine.
* Spring-loaded reel clutch for positive raking control.
* Use to rake, dethatch turf or break up aeration cores.
* Pivoting front axle allows maintaining of a stable surface.

I have used this to make thousands of dollars seeding every year. Only getting rid of it because I bought a new overseeder and won't need this one any more.

Asking $500. You'll make that much money with your first job.

Hello everyone... I just joined the other day as I came upon this site looking for some advice. We are located in Grain Valley and my husband has been in business for 15 years. Over time the amount of money we have lost from deadbeats and non-paying commercial accounts is ridiculous. I'm so sick of people owing and not paying and I want to do something about it just not sure what steps to take. Currently we have an account that he's done for the past 5 years. Recently the property was sold but the ppl in the office told us to continue doing the work. One day the new manager stopped him while they were mowing and told him that she had hired someone else and basically for them to get off the property. So that was in April, they owe 1933.00 and even after letters and phone calls I still get no response (OR CHECK !!!). The bad part is that since we've always done their lawn care and snow removal (before the new owners)we don't have a signed contract for this year (lesson learned). So where do I go from here? Small claims court? Mechanics lien? Collections? Any advice would be much appreciated !!

badassgrass
07-31-2007, 05:25 PM
lomb: How long did you mow for the new owners? You don't have a contract but you might have an implied contract (for example they could have told you don't mow eight months ago but never said anything)

Lombardo's Lawn Care
07-31-2007, 06:17 PM
Just two mowings in April 2007. But after we had done the work we received a letter from the old owners dated May16, 2007 that said the property has been sold so the account should be closed and no charges accrued after April 20, 2007. I was like "how are they gonna send us a letter dated May 16 and tell us not to do any more work after April 20 ??" We had already done the work.

It was a big commercial account- a bunch of townhomes in KC that we mowed bi-weekly. One mowing was $1400. The second time we went to mow in April the new manager stopped the guys as they were only 1/3 of the way done mowing. So we charged them for one full mowing plus 1/3 of the second mowing. The old owners payed everything up until April 20 and when this billing conflict came up they told me "according to the sales agreement the new owners were responsible for anything after the sale of the property." The problem was that we knew nothing about this whole deal (or we wouldn't have been mowing)until after the fact- in May, after it was too late cause we had already done the work in April.

I'm looking for some good commercial equipment in the KC area. I'm out of the lawn business now, but I've got 3 acres to mow and I need something bigger than my 36 Exmark wb.

It's getting to be the time of year that people decide to quit the biz, and I'm looking to get a value. I'd like either a ZTR or a Wright Stander with at least a 48" cut.

Somebody had a 52 stander with 14 hrs on it for $4k, but he sold it bright and early this morning. DARN!!!

If anyone hears of anything it would be appreciated.

Hello Guys, Im out here in Shawnee. Im going to mow full time this year. I do lawn renovations, landscape design and install, sprinkler install and maint as well as chemical applications. Who sells the red mulch for the lowest price? If you need someone to brush hog a field or two give me a call. After we eat at the Martin City bbq can we go to the Stilwell Smokehouse sometime?

I think marrs recycling is the lowest on colored mulch. It's down on Roe blvd. @ merriam dr. Mulch Mart is also good for higher quality stuff.

Guys, is it just me or am I seeing less and less of the bigger companies around town?

Ive been doing this for 12 years and it seems the Corporates, Doctors, and Goodwins just to name a few are all downsizing?

I just dont see the large mowing companies anymore. Sign of the times maybe? Are more people mowing their own grass?

there is so much turf to mow around town, can't really see them down sizing. or there are others growing. adding more crews.

I guess its the latter. I work everywhere from Merriam to Shawnee to Lenexa to OP to Leawood and I have noticed a considerable difference in the last few years with the so called big-wigs.

I dont think they would downsize on purpose. I just wonder if the market is so saturated that they were forced to downsize.

I don't think the "bigger companies" are down sizeing. I think they are getting more into the larger scale commercial jobs. Also I have noticed that the installs on new developement has gone crazy the past two years. And of course if they do the install they generall get the maintanence contract. The money they are making is crazy $$. I have a customer that just spent 300000.00 on an design and install on a house that was a 4.5Million rebuild. I am a small company and have had the customer for 4 years and they kept me when they did there rebuild. I made a decent penny or two on the install but maintanence contract is butter. I am lucky to have a customer like this and it is not the norm for a company my size. But for the larger companies they get this kinda stuff all the time. Also some places like Suburban and Rosehill have growing farms and retail that has exploded. I know that Rosehill and Suburban both employ 350 plus people. Not too bad. Also back to the commercial accounts. My parents live in a maintanence provided type area and they pay the company 120000.00 a year to take care of the place. There is always a crew of 5 or more doing something. All I think is that they are into bigger and more profitable areas other than mowing and clean ups.
I think the bigger they grow the better it is for us smaller companies. If we play our cards right, do excellent work, provide Great Customer Service and finish your job so that your customer will recomend you and you will be one of thoes "Mega" LCCO.'S.

Just a thought. ( I hope my plan works)

Work hard and play harder.

Hey fellas,

I'm looking to network with a couple good quality landscape/mowing compaines here in KC.

I own Stinkies Pet Waste Removal, yeah, were the guys you see picking up dog poop ;)

We service hundreds of customers each week and know many people who are on the board of HOA's. I'm sure if anyone out there who puts as much pride in there work as we doo will benifit from a networking relationship.

So, if your hungry for more business and would like to mow in clean yard, let us know.

Visit our website for contact information. Take care.

Thanks. We have a few trucks that look exactly the same. Same make, model, color etc.

We have new customer packets we give to each new account. Plus, we bill monthly so we would include information in each billing also. I believe in guerilla network marketing. I market our networking partners as hard as my own company. We don't just refer when some asks, we actually put your info in front of them each month and always bring it up in conversations with them.

All we ask in return is a professional networking partner with the same mindset as ours. Networking can be a powerful marketing tool if done correctly and consistently.

We are a small business but we do service hundreds of routine customers each month with new customers coming in each month as well, year round.

I’m not sure if commercial accounts interest you, or if you all bid on many each year but we are in pretty good with HOA’s. We know some of the members on the boards and would probably be able to get our networking partners included in bids. Like I said, not sure if you all bid on many of these and it’s no big deal.

Feel free to contact me anytime. Just ask for Shon.

It's worth it to go once at least. I went a few years ago & honestly, I didn't get a whole lot out of it. From what I understand, they have changed things for the better now.

I'm pretty much done mowing for the year. I did one more round of leaves this week, but didn't pick much up this time so I put everyone on the "call me" list. Just have to do some landscape trimming & get them all ready for winter now.

If you had listened to Gary Lezak you would have known for over a week that this was going to be the case!

If you don't beelive me --- start watching his forecass -- you'll find that he is head and shoulders above the rest as far as accuracy

Katy Horner will tell you to head south for the winter, wear a hard hat and put studded snow tires on the wagon. Gary is the man!!

Oh I agree w/ listening to Gary. I always figure better safe than sorry though. I listened to him last year on the first storm & ended up hooking up the plow in the snow. Now I just assume for the worst.

Just wanted to let everyone know that my mothers house got broken into on Friday just West of Bonner Springs. They got a tv, vcr, dvd, laptop and some jewlery that she had. One neighbor saw them and it was three guys in a silver/blueish car with a banged up passenger front fender. If anyone hears anything please let me know would like to catch these guys. Everyone might keep an eye out on there own homes and equipment. Thanks

Watch them do not let him know about your jobs is, I just got burned on one where one of my long term customers was told I was too busy for the job and let one of his companies take care of it and they would take care of them since they was a friend of mine. It was a 35K driveway. I learned to late because his brother was fighting cancer. And I didn't push it. Talk to Steve at H+R. Cheaper too. Give me a call I have one other conection.

Yes he builds great stone walls. I got him I do not know how much stone wall work. If I had to guess at least 150k this year. And I do not even know the guy but his walls speak for themselves. They are great. But I have already took one 600 sq foot away from them this week. And working on another. My first rule is if I am on your job it is that, no exceptions and my employees have the same values. If I transplant a tree and they ask me for mulch, or to buy trees, I reply I do not do that call your contractor. We can all work together. And all do well:weightlifter:.

Hey guys..
I read more than I post on here but was thinking about setting up a place to meet up for dinner and lawn discussion for fun sometime during the winter months. I am in Leavenworth, been in business for 26 plus years and love to hear about what everyone else is using as far as equipment, problems encountered...etc....
The Legends area by the Kansas Speedway has several places that could work out.
Just a thought!!
Post your opinions!!

Yeah, we are just waiting for traffic to die down a little. People are idiots out there. 2 inches of snow and they act like its a freaking blizzard.
