Ok guys I have what is probably a really dumb question. I live in Northwest Indiana and none of my nurseries have any plants yet. How do I find out what the prices will be so I can do my estimates for jobs? Thanks for any help you can provide.

Call them. They have to be gearing up so get ahold of them. Do you get a wholesale list from them or just walk in? Otherwise add 10% and good luck.

I hope I can get a wholesale list, this is my first year in lawncare/landscape business.

Hey Daleman,
My first year also, though I've helped a friend for some time. have you got a federal tax id number? You'll need to take a copy of that with you when you go to places and get "registered" with them for billing and wholesale purchases.
I'm planning on going to see them and introdcue myself next week.
I'm in Fort Wayne. I have a good friend that's been in the biz for 30 years and he's president of the state arborists. Good guy to know!

Your nursery should have an availibility and price list for their upcoming crop of plants. If you can get wholesale prices then double the price for the customer. That way you can offer a 1 year replacement warranty if the plants die and you wont be out of any money. Makes the customer happy that their expensive plants are under warranty and makes your company stand out from the rest. Not many landscaping companies in this area offer warranties on their plants.

You may want to get a "Nursery Dealers License". They are available from the Indiana Department of Natural Resources Division of Entomology and Plant Pathology at 402 W. Washington Street RoomW290 Indpls. In. 46204. They are required to buy and sell Nursery stock by IC 14-24-7. Most wholesale nursery require a license to purchase stock. At least thats true around here.

Even if the nursery does not have the plants yet, they should be able to help you with prices. If they won't help you now, you should look for another supplier that wants your business.
