I demoed this thing today with the 60 in. deck. Man it is great. Hydraulic deck lift, I ran it through some really thick stuff and it never bogged. It cut perfectly, never left a blade standing. Then we ran it on the side of a hill, actually part of a really huge ditch and it never even started to slide, it stuck like a magnet. On flat ground it will mow its @$$ off. The blade engagment is soooo smooth, it has to be the quietest mower I've ever ran. I give it a 10. I can get this mower with the fab deck for $9,800 or so. Good deal eh? We are going up to Kubota Tuesday to see about picking one up. Oh and the dealer is about 10 minutes from my house.

I think their running a 0% interest plan now, for 36 months, sounds interesting.

I went to Athens, TN but that seems like a good price, I'll give them a call too when I'm ready to pull the trigger. Any particular sales man I should talk to?

I demo'd the same thing on Saturday. I was very dissapointed in the cut quality compared to my Toro Z253. I ran it out of power cutting up a fairly steep hill (not tall grass), and on a side hill that I cut every week with the Toro I slid into a water filled ditch with the ZD21.

Any idea why it left dandelion stalks that my Toro takes off? What could have been wrong. Quiet motor, rode great, uses little fuel, but no sale.

$9200 and 0% at Schweissguth Bros. John Deere / Kubota in Union Missouri.

Went by there (Tag's) yestarday to get some price quotes. Seems pretty good but not $9100 good.

I got
ZD18-54 $8,400
ZD21FP-60 $9,400 :(
ZD28FP-60 $10,300

I'm really wanting the 28-60. Hopefully I'll get to buy one early June (after we close on our new home). I wonder if I can get him to throw in a mulch kit discounted?

Thanks for the info!

BTW the guy in athens was $300-$500 higher on every ZD.

Was this diesel, or gas? I think if it was gas, I would opt for more than 21 hp. I can't see this thing pushing two hydros, and a 60 in. deck with very much power for very long. I would want to know what OTHER size motors they have available, then maybe leave the price a little closer to what it is. I've heard that tey are nice units, though. There is a guy that cuts a few doors down from me. Actually, it is two older guys that went in like as a partnership type deal. They had a couple of Scag Z's the last 2 years. I saw them cutting over there yesterday, because I recognized the truck and the orange mowers. Only when they pulled out, I then saw that the orange wasn't the Scag orange. It was Kubota orange with two brand new units on the back. I'll make it a point to talk to him sometime over the course of the season, and ask him about them, too. Nice guy.

The Kubota ZD21 and 28 are both diesel.

I got 9100 quote in early march, that 10,300 is the best I've seen on 28/60.
If you buy in GA -no sales tax for you,try Rhinehardt in Rome, and Coles in Dalton.:)

I thought the $10,300 was a good price. I'll call those other two places and get a price quote. If they come close and will deliver it without tax maybe I'll buy from them, since no tax would save over $700.

28hp kubota is a strong, strong, very strong engine---my former employer ran them on grasshoppers and belts, clutch, etc. would slip before that thing would bog down.

Bought a ZD 21 yesterday w/ 60" Pro deck for $9,500. The one without the Pro deck was quoted to me for $9,200. I found a ZD 21 pro in Dallas for $9,100, but by the time I drive 180 miles one way w/ a trailer I decided it wasn't worth it the extra $400 and time spent.

By the way, the ZD 28 w/ the same deck was $1,200 dollars more. I could only justify the need for the extra power if I was mowing seriously hilly estates.

Now I'm just waiting for my canopy to come in so I can mount it on the ROPS and mow in the shade.:p

Some places will just write it up as a delivery out of state and let you take it with you.Others will demand they actually deliver.-I actually live in Ringgold,I bought my scag at SEQ. equip for the price that was quoted over phone,no tax,no extras.:)

Try to find a equipment convention...they usually drop the price that mower was 8,500 OTD NEW at the last convention here in Charlotte.

i ran one recently at the Flex-deck barbq, it was terrible....

it was rough riding, bogged down in thick tall grass and was very unstable on a hill.

and a mechanics nightmare..

for $9k, i'd opt for a Hustler, Exmark or Chopper for overall performance and productivity.....

some manufacturers are better off doing what they do best.....tractors

I just bought a zd21 with the fab deck and got the new 3 bag collection system for it and I love it. I havent been able to put it through any real heavy stuff yet but its much better than my ferris is3000, as for ride the ferris does have it beat though. I paid 9,500 less bagger for mine here in upstate New York

I have the ZD28 60". No complaints here, all the power I need. I can cut grass as fast as I want. I can run doubles through tall wet grass, this thing will not bog down. The quality of cut looks fine to me. I have the stamped deck wish I had waited for the fab deck.paid 9800 in oct. of last year.

JR-contracting How much was the canopy?

It seems the wife isn't seeing things like I am. I've got the go ahead for the ZD18, and it is probably all I need. But I think for $1900 more it is worth getting the 28. Problem is, my wife doesn't.

I'll have to see what happens.

Capt,
I don't know what size slope you tried the ZD 21 on, but I mow the backside of a customers dam for his pond, which is almost a 20 degree slope, and have no problem with it sliding or not holding its position at all. I don't know about smaller guys riding it though. I am over 250 lbs so no problem, but some lighter guys might consider getting an adjustable weight kit like you can get on the John Deere ZTR's.
As far as the dixie chopper goes, I had one and got tired of having dust and dirt thown all over me when I mowed. It was a nice machine, but I definetly like the deck and motor on the ZD 21 better.
- just some of my opinions:)

20 degree slope? slight incline you mean?

i run on some 40-50 degree hillsides.

i tried running the Kubota on 20-30 and it slid (not wet either), and was very uncomfortable...it is very limited, i guess thats why it has R.O.P.S.

for my applications, i need a machine that is more versatile and productive....i love Kubota engines though......

it was nice to see they came up with a stronger deck though.

for the money, there are far better, faster and much more stable machines out there.

Talked to Cole's and got these prices.

These are delivered prices.

ZD18-54 $8,635
ZD21F-60 Pro $9,640
ZD28F-60 Pro $10,885

BTW IMHO I think these mowers are cheap compared to other mowers with the same options. I can't comment on performance but from options, I think Kubota's got it covered.
