Just a quick note to those looking to sell their mainenance properties.

PLEASE notify the group you are selling to before you sell your equipment. Notify the customers as to what is happening. Once all of the above is done, then you can discontinue service and sell your equipment.

I am still available to purchase accounts for those looking to get out of the business.

JESSE is scamming people out of their hard earned money.
He has had my check since 8/14/09 for a 18.5ft landscape trailer.

He is saying he is out of the business and will NOT build my trailer yet I still see him STILL advertise daily.

Please contact me at 214-618-9627 if your having trouble with this company.
I paid Jesse $3800 8/14/09 and still have no trailer and he is claiming bankrupt.

I have three commercial hondas for sale. They have been on my landscape crew for about a year. I have included a picture. I would like to sell them all together for $700.

I have two bags with them.

1. Works just fine
2. One starts but dies when you engage the blades ( I havent even looked into this problem)
3. One starts and blades engage but has less power then the other two.

If no one wants them in current condition I will get them repaired and then post them for more.

email me mike@whitpm.com or 817-995-0324 .... mention you saw me on lawnsite. I am located in FTW but would be willing to meet someone if they where serious. Will sell sepertly but would prefer together.

I have a Echo HC150 [hedge trimmer] that has very little use on it. I would guess under 15hrs use.

I need a Stihl string trimmer with a good engine. I am going to put it on a edger, so it does not matter if the shaft or head has something wrong with them. I prefer a FS80/85. If anyone is interested let me know and I can email some pics.

I have a stihl hedge trimmer. I believe it is the 20" blade. Its at the shop but it could also be the 24" when I get it back I will measure. It has a bent blade (cant bend back) and they are saying replacement blades are $200. This is hard for me to believe. If this is true then I was curious 1. Does anyone have a broken stihl hedge trimmer that would want to sell me the blades off it. 2. Can I put 18" blades on this instead as I have found a stihl online for very cheap but its an 18" blade.

Check with Classic Turf on Rosedale and 820. They are in the same big building with Dan Dipert bus line. I think they sold me a new set of 24" blades for around $80. I bought them as a spare when I bent my blade. My bent blade came from a hidden bolt in a wall. It stopped the blade dead and left a little hump. We took it off the machine and gently beat it flat on the shop floor. That bent blade is still cutting strong today.

Ok guys. I have a landscape bid that I am putting together and I am having to deal with URBAN FORESTRY of FORT WORTH. This is a city deal. It is all the codes and permits you must pull in certain areas before you start to even build your proeprty. You must have a lot of forms filled out and a proper design.

Is anyone familar with this. If so any insight would be great. Also I dont mind paying money for consulting on this.

I have lived in the county for the past 3 years and have decided to move back tot he city. Now I need a storage unit because there is no way I can get away with keep my trailer at the house.

So, where do you guys keep your stuff or recommend?

Areas: Plano and Richardson.

I have a 14' trailer about 16' with the tounge. It's 8 foot wide and I can just about get it into a 10' door opening. (might have to take off a few weedeaters). I have been looking around and either they are not gated, no cameras, bad areas, no spaces avaliable, to small, to expensive etc.

I would like something under $250 a month and even better would be about 150-200 a month. I don't need climate controlled, water or power just something to put my stuff and trailer in?

Thanks,

Jason

PS: I don't have that trailer in the pic anymore.

I hired H & H distributing to put out door hangers for my company. They did a great job the first round, then on the second round, i received a call from a lady stating she saw them dump a bunch of them in the creek. I met with her, got all her information, then completely drove the areas they were supposed to put the door hangers. Out of 5000 they were supposed to put out, they might have hung 500 max. I called and spoke with the owner and all he did was make excuses and accuse me of being difficult then he hung up on me and will not answer my calls nor will he return any of our calls.

Who would know if they put them out you know! Unless you follow every guy walking around you just don't know.

You are a lot more understanding than I. $6,200 and still no resolve? This is basically justification from the "officer" on why he thought to call 3 other officers, and why he spent 40+ minutes with you.

You proved the jetski was your correct... that was the initial "officer" concern. Once that was done that should have been the end or the investigation.

Hey, Ernie here.

I do a lot of work (mostly mowing, clean ups, etc. Just getting started in this industry after recent lay off) in the SW DFW area. Arlington, Grand Prairie, Mansfield, Ft Worth, other surrounding areas. Would be glad to help anyone out that gets contacts in these areas with no possible way to get down to this area of the DFW Metroplex.

I dont know. I was spraying my yard today and noticed there isn't much trying to come back yet. It got really cold this winter. Might have really zaped it good. I know it was down to 8 degrees here one night. Then all the snow cover. We had 4 inches 2 weeks ago in addition to the 6 from a month or 2 ago.

I am way down in maintenance from what we have done over the last 3 years. Makes me wonder how long it will take to come back. I guess we have not had enough 75+ days either.

I just found out I lost a BIG HOA due to all new manegement that wants to cut costs this HOA was a little over 40% of my business (yes too many eggs in one basket!) so needless to say I am now looking for new CX's we do fertilizing, weed control, and some outdoor pest control. Im TDA Licensed and all that great stuff. I go as far north as Denton, and as far south as Waxahachie. Let me know if anyone wants to work together.

I also used H&H. They told me they would put out all my flyers etc. I didn't get hardly any calls out of 10,000. Maybe 15 calls max. I have been putting them out with my crew for years. We get 15 calls with 5,000 or less. Not 10,000. I knew right then they were not all being put out.

Who would know if they put them out you know! Unless you follow every guy walking around you just don't know.

I grew by 20% without flyers just using videos and podcasts from a marketing company that markets for lawn care guys and tree trimmers. crap works

Just wondering how everyone is doing? I have picked up a few accounts along the way and am slowly getting to where I need to be. I actually picked up a part time job and that has seemed to spur a few calls along with the heat! LOL
I would rather be busy than sitting at home. Off to trim a few shrubs this morning and then a shift at the part time gig tonight. Hoping to pick up a few more lawns along the way as well. I will be glad to give up the part time gig, but want to make absolutely sure I have enough work lined up. I like the extra $$

I am doing well. For a while I thought well this is really starting to suck. The phone was just not ringing like it used to. Then all the sudden when the rain hit the phone started ringing. I only run one truck and I am full on that one.

On Friday I used the 52" Scag on almost all my lawns. Some of them didn't look good but I was that far behind.

Is this heat killing anyone else? My brother has been working with me and he had to go to the emergency room for exhaustion and now has a heat rash on almost his entire upper body. I can barley get 10 min of mowing done by myself. One of my other guys does a little better.

Yeah I don't think I would make it behind a cubical with a boss. On the heat yeah it has been rough. But the problem is this. When I sit in the truck I start here petron this and that. Meaning the boss is not doing anything. I don't need to explain my self to the guys but I try to get out there and work as much as I can. I don't get why the heat bothers some more than others.

That is crazy George. I know some cities "require" these permits, but I find it a bit ridiculous. I look at it as a damn tax collection system, similiar to speed traps. The problem is most cities are hurting for money, so they get away with this crap.
I figure if someone has a no soliciting sign, I respect that and keep on walking to the next house. I know we could argue the "soliciting" here, but i figure if I skip that one there is no issue with me in any way.
It is to bad the cops aren't out stopping a real criminal versus someone trying to make a living.

i feel violated because i have to prove i haven't done anything wrong to pass out flyers,FLYERS.i have no record but 75.00 is a little much and aloows already nosey city a little more info i dont think they need to know about me.i have a my dba why cant that be enough?

I never have tried them before. I didn't order too many. I figured I'd give it a try though. It's been my experience with other advertizing avenues that I have good luck picking up new clients this time of year. That's why I'm doing a small batch now... just to see what comes of it. If it works I might do more this time next year. If it doesn't work then now I know and I can concentrate on other things. Either way, I'm only out $150 and the time it takes to get them out in my spare time.

I don't really cover that much territory. Most of those places I have no lawns in. I used to have a one day route that took me on a big horseshoe around those areas that let me take it easy and keep track of new developments. I don't deal with that route anymore. I really should take a bunch of those areas out before I get a I should get rid of. I will make sure to post my findings on the doorhangers at this point in the season.

For me it has always been my website this time of year. Being handy in the search results when weeks like this happen with all the rain is gold! I have been getting emails left and right this week wanting service because they cant get to their lawns with the rain. I also find that leaning on clients to spit out some referrals this time of year is also pretty good. You get the people who havent been pleased this season with their current company and are looking for excuses to swap companies. A friend referral is typically all they need.

Nice but who has the time to peel and stick at every house.

I wasn't sure if you were referring to having the time to door hang in general or your thought was our Door Hanger Stick-It would take longer than the typical hole and slit style. In case it was the reference to our hanger itself, I thought you may want to see this post we found on another forum where one of our customers was telling other Window Cleaning companies about his success with our Stick-It style Door Hanger.

HERE IS THE POST:
Stick It Doorhangers Tip

I recently found and ordered 5k of their stick it door hangers and they are awesome, cuts your time down easily by half when going around door to door putting out either fliers or door hangers etc

I love them, ordering 20k more soon they stick to pretty much anything no more bending down for us old farts just stick them onto a glass door or next to their driveway and they aren't going anywhere!! I have the door hangers and you simply peel off a small piece of paper on the back of them and stick them any place. Has save me a ton of bending and opening storm doors to place fliers.

watch the video on their website its www.adeasprinting.com i highly recommend you give them a try.

.....

tip 2

If you get one of those annoying snobs when doing door hangers saying you can't leave fliers in the area, just peel one of these babies back and stick it to their forehead and walk on. ha ha

tip 3

run like hell

That's cool. I hope the design company isn't charging you a ton for the design work. I did my website and my logo design myself but I'm considering hiring a company to provide me with an updated and finalized logo to start using in the offseason.

Well, the logo company is charging about $600, but that includes my logo that can be trademarked, buisness cards, a couple other stationary products with logo on it, like 3 logos to choose from or use for different things, 3 page website with all the important features, 24/7 web support and a few other perks. I am looking for a logo that can be trademarked and is original. Not to bad compared to some of the other logo design companies. Also, I saw some of there previous web page designs...very professional.

Hello Guys
I have a small lawn care company in northwest Fort Worth and I'm always wanting to learn new stuff. I want to see if any of the companys around the metroplex might want to take me under their wing to show me how winter rye is put down and maintained though the winter. I can only work on the weekends, but it would be some good free labor for you if you can show me how its done. Thanks

Anyone looking to sell accounts in Mckinney, Plano, Allen, Frisco, or The Colony? We're going to have a big push next year in advertisement for new customers but would rather pay someone wanting to sell accounts.

Selling Christmas trees. Anyone interested or want to send out to clients to make money. We sent out to all our residential clients and commercial and have had a great response. We have purchased 200 trees from NC and they come in after Turkey Day. We will sell them for 35-65 to landscape companies. Charge people to set up and delivery. Either make money off refferals or off your own delivery charge.

Also LOOKING TO BUY ACCOUNTS> Any area. Or any equipment

Hi Everyone,

I'm new to the site but have been in the business for the past nine years. Looking to grow it big this year. Add new equipment and aiming to have 50+ customers. Currently have 13 weekly or Bi-weekly customers. Live in Bedford and my area is pretty much here in Bedford but also do one in S. Keller. Looking to get more there around Davis and N. Tarrant in S. Keller and N. N.R.H. Also picked up two in Roanoke off an ad, don't know if they will go permanent or just an occasional basis but wouldn't mind having more in that area. Nice yards, not too big, nice neighborhood, can usually charge more in those areas. Also have a few duplexes, anyone else have some of those or know how much to charge for them. Concerned that I may be charging too much for them. Don't want to lose them but don't want to cheat myself either. Also looking to get a trailer. Found a brand new 6.5 x 12 landscapers trailer. Tandem 3500 lb. axles, 2 x 2 mesh lock box one weed eater rack, 4' mesh sides and ramp. New dealer trying to start up in the area selling it for $1525, made by stagecoach and has a one year warranty. Anyone know about stagecoach and how good they are? Checked prices and an equivalent trailer from Big Tex is $2449. Thanks in advance. Happy Mowing!

By and large nobody does any planning anymore. People are used to getting exactly what they want right now. They don't realize that with some service industries we might have a schedule to keep. And then there are the a-holes that know we have a schedule and they need to plan ahead and they just don't care. They think they are the only person we need to take care of. I had a lady call at noon today asking if I could get her property spring clean up taken care of by 3pm. I laughed so hard she hung up on me.

I have had a few of these calls lately. It really pisses me off to as to how inconsiderate the people are that want you to jump right now. They have no clue how busy you are and they usually want it done for nothing. I have begun to tell them all I am busy and that I will get to them at a time I arrange with them. If they can't wait a few hours or a day then do I really want them as customers? Probably not!

My favorite one is Southwest [sandy lake road] but that would be a small drive. They always have about anything you would want are need. You do have to be legit with a Sales and Use permit from the comptroller because they are a wholesale ony place. There is a JDL right off 380 in Prosper that I used to deal with some, a little pricey.

I do not want another 2007. That year about put me in the poor house because of so much rain. I literally got to mow all my clients lawns about once every three weeks. And even worse than that I think 6 people [one was a two year old little girl] lost their lives that one morning along with many homes destroyed.

It seems like it is all or nothing every couple of years now.

Can someone give me a round about estimate of what I should charge for small retaining wall using the pavestone system? I was thinking $15.00 per foot installed. What is an acceptable charge for this kind of work.

The wall is going to be small 67ft long and 3 levels high.

So 67ft x $15.00 = $1005.00

201 Blocks @ $1.78 each = $360.00
Labor $300
If you can think of so things I am missing or need to think about please share!

Sounds pretty cheap. Contact Mike Whit. He's a certified pavestone installer. To do it right it takes more than just stacking stones. Not bashing you or your customer but it's semi in depth.
Posted via Mobile Device how do you contact him? Is he on here?

Can someone give me a round about estimate of what I should charge for small retaining wall using the pavestone system? I was thinking $15.00 per foot installed. What is an acceptable charge for this kind of work.

The wall is going to be small 67ft long and 3 levels high.

So 67ft x $15.00 = $1005.00

201 Blocks @ $1.78 each = $360.00
Labor $300
If you can think of so things I am missing or need to think about please share!

Way too cheap.

Way too cheap. Well can you give me some advice. So I will not be sitting in someones backyard wanting to kick myself in the AXX.

My bid is due Monday. So any info would be great. I got everything I need as far as the job goes. I am about 99.9% sure it's I can handle it. I just don't want to leave money on the table. I feel like if I run around doing this work for way to low it will overall hurt all of us. Of course if I am way to high then I will not have to worry about doing it at all. This must be a big secret number.

Re-sent

Way too low. Hopefully you got the pm this time and can contact him.

Bid to make money....including some accidental oversights.
Look at it this way, better to bid too high and not get a job than bid too low, lose your ass, spend more money from your pocket to get it right.

Pavestone is much more than just stacking blocks, trust me.

Good luck and get in touch with Mike.

Just an FYI.

Lock your equipment up tight, bring it inside if possible. There is a professional crew of thieves going around dallas robbing shops and landscapers blind. They have a gotten a number of my friends and a number of shops in the metroplex within the last month.

And from what I've heard they drive a white van that says "Dallas construction" on the side

Nice to finally get some rain!!!!!!!!

Does anyone have a commercial insurance agent they could reccomend. I was using one and they dropped Allied, the line they were representing, and my policy will not renew with them because of that. This is for General Liability lawncare and landscape plus applicator coverage.

Thanks,
Jason

Time to play in the mud!!
