Mower_babe,
Look in the elements of business section and I have a picture of one of the 4x6 cards I put out. I'm getting 10,000 printed today for just over $200! Other than that I put a ad in the pennysaver and the local SUN newspaper. Responses have been low, but now with the weather warming up, I think it will change.
BTW, what part of IL. are you in?

mower_babe
03-24-2003, 08:01 PM
Dear Precision Lawn,

Where did you get those cards done? Is it from a company in Florida - "twig one stop"? I know you can get access to them from the internet. I've checked them out a little bit, but I need to get more into it.
I am in the north western part of IL. Just 15 miles east of the Mississippi, and about 1.5 hrs south of Wisconsin and 3 hours west of Chicago. Surrounded by cornfields.
Don't worry, I am of no competition, I see your'e in Chicago-land. I don't want to travel that far to mow! :waving:

John, I run an old Ford 4000 gas 3cyl. with a six ft. Rhino. Of all the dumps I`ve been in (knock on wood), (thank the Lord), I haven`t ripped out a tire mowing tall out of control weeds. Two of my places every year are right next to the right of way on RR tracks. But I like the change of pace, sitting on the old Ford with the strait pipe blaring as the bush hog rips and bangs around. My concern is getting hit with a rock the big blade whips. I need to hang chain in the front . I pull it around with a 22ft gooseneck. :waving:

River Forest, Hinsdale, Oak Park, Oakbrook. These are the prominent towns and the companies that work there are charging 120 per week for something that looks like a 80. The lawyers, doctors and stepford wives live in these areas. I think I need to look good and the women will hire me. They aren't really problems I just work another job for insurance and go to college IM going to learn how to do taxes, AKA accountant. cant wait until Mid Feb. then Ill go paper the towns and see what comes up.

Hey again. I just found out that there is 2 classes on insurance for us. Mowing and landscaping (spraying spreading). I was covered before in Iowa (2001) with no losses and the price was 357/yr for $1,000,000 in coverage in either class. Seems $600/yr is the average if never covered before. Check with an independant that can handle Erie, Scottsdale, and Allied.

I am with Erie and it is around $375 not counting what I pay for equipment coverage a year. My policy includes mowing, pruning, and fert/weed. $1,000000 max per incident with $2000000 total coverage.

Never a claim, I was told that it will go up slightly at renewal this year. I also have my commercial Auto with them too, but got it a year after the business insurance.

Mgardner
01-26-2005, 01:46 PM
Mine runs 1600. down to the wire. Includes truck as a commercial vehicle, liability to both trailers. Comprehensive on all equipment. Covers losses year round to entire inventory which is listed. If it isn`t listed on your policy including serial #...., it is not covered. I used to pay 379 a year until my independent agent pointed out all the loopholes of the policy. They go by gross income so if its just a sideline you can welch on rates. When its your entire livelyhood those items have to be listed. They also audit every year (payroll) determines exposure level.

How many of you guys use late fee and what are they for you in IL.

mower_babe
04-14-2005, 01:47 AM
I have 10 day billing sent out on first of the month. Late fee 1.5%. I usually don't apply the late fee if they pay w/in the month. Most of our regulars pay w/in a week of receiving the bill - I have one that is bad about it and they are a business and I tack on the interest. You would think they would be better about paying. I usually have to send someone over there to collect. Hubby just went over there two weeks ago to collect on last years late balance from August - he told them that this crap had to end. Trust me they do not want me to come over there. For those of you that know me, I would be much more direct. For that account, I would like to see prepay or something.

I dumped an account last spring after 4 years of servicing them bc they were sooo slooow in paying and they were also a business - a restaurant! I have taken two accounts to court for non-payment. Won the first one and the second was settled out of court for full amount, legal fees but no interest. A third late account moved on me, but I found her and she paid.

Below I have posted what is on my bills..."Net due 10 days $$$...Accounts past due subject to 1.5% interest, all collection and legal fees, and discontinuation of service."

Are you having payment issues??

NO Not mobile. That guys goes around the neighboorhood and is very expensive. I do this in a garage, strictly small time. Good dependabel work, and I don't overcharge. Mostly homeowners, some commercial stuff. I do it because I enjoy it 100% ! What area are you located in?

Hi, I am new to the site. We are in Gilberts, IL which is close to Elgin. We serve Northern Illinois specializing in cleaning and sealing paver patios, driveways and walkways new or old.

Most of our work is within 20 miles of us 60136 if you want to mapquest it. I always have cutomers asking to refer them a company for lawncare and I have lots of people asking for companies to install pavers.

If you want to be used as a referral to my customers let me know. I only refer professional companies so you must be insured, Carry Workman's comp and be experienced. If you want to be on my referral list email me a brief bio of your company including certifications, ins amounts, and whatever else you think sets you apart from the rest. gryan@paverprotector.com

If you have customers that have brick pavers that need to be cleaned and or sealed please pass my info along to them. I pay for referrals in a few different ways so be sure they mention your name. Last year I gave out over $1,000 in dining gift certificates.

I look forward to being part of the lawnsite community and networking with you all.

Cheers

New here from Chicago. I stumbled on this forum through a search on Google. We (my brother, father, and I) have been in business for about 12 years. We do everything from hardscapes to lawn maintenance. We service about 400 customers weekly. From Oak Park all the way to New Lenox. Glad to see there's a pretty good community here.

Im around Carol Stream, Lombard, Glen Ellyn, Wheaton. I have been doing this here for 8 years now and ready for a change. Business was pretty good last year considering the economy, this snow season is good, I only do commercial plowing though.

Im toying with the idea of selling and moving to Houston, TX because of family down there. Anyone here looking to expand? I have roughly 60-70 lawn maintenance accounts, 80% res, 20% comm., and a two truck route all commercial for snow. If anyone is seriously interested, I can provide a equipment list to start, and we can talk. Drop me an email.

Hey Dave, long time no talk. I really only have about 10-15 fert accounts and will probably just let then go with the maintenance, because we cut the grass where we apply fert. As far as the equipment goes, im going to try to sell as a package deal first, but I might split it up if that doesnt work. Im going to the yard on Thursday to get an exact list of equipment and I might post it at that time. Thanks, have a good one.
