I have enough confidents in my work to not worry about it.. And it wouldn't look good if someone saw you take something off someone's property without permission..

This happened to me a few times, and both times the homeowner came out to chat with me. I simply grabbed the flyer and told him he got a lawn care flyer from some guy up the road and if he wanted it? Both times they said ''no''. If you're standing face to face with a loyal customer, he's not going to want to accept that flyer right in front of you.
And if I get a flyer on my door at home, I also call them and have them come out for an estimate, so I know what they're charging.

Lol, they feel really silly and embarrased when they come over to give the estimate and they see my rig parked in my driveway.:)

This happened to me a few yrs ago. My wife told them to come out for an estimate (chemlawn). The guy gave me a free soil analysis & price, then she told them we are a lawn company too-thanks for the estimate.
Now I have free information on their pricing structure. I will also do this with customers lawns if they are gettting rid of chemlawn. They tell me the price for the new year & I say thank you! It helps me keep a mental note on competitors pricing-if they'll give you the info for free, use it.

Respect the guy for trying to drum up new business. If I'm doing my job and not overcharging I don't have anything to worry about.

Nice to see some sensible responses. This came up in another thread last year or so and many people said they'd take it and throw it away.
I says it's none of my business. It belongs to the customer now and whatever they decide to do with it is up to them.

there have been plenty of times where i would see another lawn care companys advertisment on someone's door. I'd put mine on there as well, and then would drive to another neiborhood where i wouldn't see any advertisments on the door. Do only qoality advertisments, that you would exspect to pick up out of a bundle. Make it stick out and mabe your calls would increase, but I also do most of my business through word of mouth.

If its in their door or on the mailbox, I won't touch it if its on laying on the lawn I will repetitively run it over with my mower, than charge the owner of the flier a littering clean-up fee........................... no ?'s asked:cry:

Crumble em up......They are trash.
What would you do if a LCO used clear packing tape and taped it to your mailbox? You know, the kind that peels a nice chunck of paint off when you remove it?
I'm going to call the guy up for a 'free' estimate...and tell him to get to re-painting my mailbox....for free. :D

only one irritated me the guy walks through the lawn while I was mowing I had to shut the mower down while he was walking by It was rather obvious that this house had a service lol, I called the number while I was waiting for the rain to stop shortly after and got cussed out by the girl that answered the phone. most fliers around here are thrown in the driveway those go in the trash I dont bother the ones at the door unless they fall when blowing wich they all do with the eb630

We offer a multitude of services. One of them happens to be litter removal from all outdoor surfaces. Lead us not into temptation but save us from evil...or something like that.

I've only ever found one, and kept it.

I dont touch them, just dont even touch it. Dont hand it to the customer, dont throw it away, just leave it. If your work is so crappy you are scared someone is going to take it from you, you need to do a better job!

The quality of my work is beside the point. I have some 2-3 acre lots in a high-profile subdivision with houses that cost anywhere from $500k to $3 million. Kids, con-men, and idiots come through there all the time shooting bids that are sheer lunacy. How about $45 for 3 acres?
Once those clowns get a lawn or two, that becomes the new standard. Legitimate or not, those low-ball bids will at least be negotiating tool in the hands of HIGHLY successful people. I know I only see a fraction of those idiot’s fliers, and I have enough business and referrals that I’m choosing my customers, but the less my customers see of that nonsense the better.

i put my flyer behind the mailbox flag, now, if theres another one already there it usually falls out by accident, and rather than letting loose debris fall on a potencial customers yard, i catch it as it's falling, at this point i really dont know what to do, so i just crumple it up and toss it in back. whoops!!:D

Hey scaper,
I thought it was illegal to place anything on the mailbox itself, only tacking to the post is considered O.K.?
Be careful you dont get fined by the US Mail, in addition to local police ticketing you for littering after you toss that flier.
Just a thought....

hey," totalcaredelusions" i thought you got booted off the site a couple days ago, glad to have you back, though i see you havnt learned much. actually, i've been using the mailbox flag for years , never had a problem other than those other flyers accidently falling off. and you're absolutly right, littering is illegal, thats why i always throw them in the back of the truck , i think some of them were yours, so you owe me for saving you a ticket! ~scaper~:) p.s. did you ever get your craftsman push mower situation worked out?
