View Full Version : Ready for the winter?

I was wondering what you guys do to get your gear ready for the winter. I usually just clean it and drain the fuel. Any major overhauls get done first week after New Year's day. Other than spark plugs and air filters, what "maintenance" is there for the 2 cycle stuff? I don't ever really have problems with them but I feel as if I'm missing something.

I add a little store safe to the fuel tanks of all my 2 cycle stuff and run it a bit before draining making sure its in the carb.In the spring.....fresh mix and your ready to rock!!I have done this for years and works well for me.
Check the mufflers on 2 cycle equipment. They clog easiy and mud dobbers build nests in them. We take spark arresters out also-they clog bad, and your trimmers run at half (or less) power.

I get some fogging oil and fog out all of my 2 cycle stuff before winter. I also add a little stabil to the fuel first.
The fogging oil gives a little coating to the cylinder walls for the winter and displaces any condensation that may occur. By the way ALL of my 2 cycle equipment runs on Amsoil 100:1 mix and I have'nt had a problem in 5 years.
