04-11-2003, 12:28 AM
LOL! My desk looks 10 times worse than that everyday. :D

04-11-2003, 12:38 AM
My desk is much worse than that too... In fact I just cleaned it a couple of weeks ago and now it is worse than before I cleaned it. I think I just have too much stuff, I should do a purge soon and get rid of some of it.

Get the printer off the desk, move it to a small table out of the way. Cut out the back of the desk top, move the desk away from the wall 6" and push the back of the monitor out the hole you cut. INSTANT work room.

04-11-2003, 01:57 AM
monitor would be to far for my eyes.printer was on a table but it took up more room.plus that was another spot to pile junk on.but thanks for the help

04-11-2003, 07:05 PM

04-11-2003, 07:22 PM

A Clean desk is a sign of a sick mind.:)

04-12-2003, 11:38 AM
You need to get a bigger desk, one that is deeper. Also, spend the $$$$ and buy a flat screen monitor for that computer-makes a huge difference. That desk is clean compared to mine, and I have a table on each side of mine to put **** on. The desks are just never big enough though... specialy when working on bigger plans..

04-12-2003, 06:14 PM
My desk is about 6' x 3.5', and i have a work space about 2' x3', the rest is just stacked with papers. That desk is clean by my standards.

04-13-2003, 12:03 AM
Here's my desk tonight. Just a brief case and a couple boxes.

04-13-2003, 12:33 AM
My work area keeps geeting bigger and messier as I axpand and take on more clients. I had a small office with just a couple drawers and the main computer desk. Now iv'e got 4- 3 level pull out drawers. 1 descent sized storage cupboard, 1 massive wall unit with double drawers and central shleving, 1 computer terminal unit and an extra attaching unit. Not to mention I doubled my floor space in my home office for junk that is on the floor. Eventually if I keep getting bigger I might just shut down the reats of the rec room and just make it a complete office by adding another computer desk.

What takes up a lot of room are my postage meter and scale, printer, fax machine, telephone, high speed internet terminal, computer monitor, computer cpu, shredder, garabge bin and recycling bin the things that I can't downsixe but need room for.

Soon enough and not too far down the future even I'm even considering a storage building for equipment and an office but that is probably 3-5 years down the road.

04-15-2003, 09:50 PM
Mine is sorta like that, Mike I can see that ur a big dale earnhardt fan like me , but all my diecasts , posters, lithographs ect are in my room . I keep my stuff in a breif case and in a filing cabinate and various loose places.

04-16-2003, 12:56 PM
Do you mean that mid-week you start to clean the desk so it looks like that by Friday. Try adding some small shelves and maybe a printer table.

I need to get organzied. I have phone numbers on 13 different pieces of scrap paper, schedules laying here and there. I always feel like i'm missing something or am going to forget to return a call. any ideas?

04-20-2003, 12:12 AM
I put up with the same desk pad calendar for two years because I never could or wanted to get to the bottom. It was stuck on November 01, the month I had ligament and tendon repair in my ankle. Now let me tell you about what the bone surgeon said would be only significant discomfort, If I knew how much and for how long (nearly 12 months afterwards) it was going to hurt I would have blown my foot off first then chambered a second round for the surgeon for all the lies he told me.

1 tablet with a line under each phone call. Flip back to the people you have taken care of and highlight them when you have finished doing what you had to do with them.

No longer need a messy desk!! All my paperwork is now taken care of by a secretary. I love clean desks......

04-21-2003, 12:05 AM

04-21-2003, 12:50 AM
I went from an IBM too. A very good machine, but Dell looked very appealing to me. I also used to have an IBM Laptop, but that's sold and I just have the Dell left.

04-24-2003, 11:31 PM
Lol my desk is brown too.........JK, mine is a mess too

04-27-2003, 05:36 PM
Went to a huge partners desk and suggested that my wife run her business from the same desk...she now keeps it clean and organized...answers my line too.

Gotta think outside that box!

Without getting into those fancy hand held palm things your suggestion Cos is the best ... I still use one ... I don't highlight but put a check mark beside each message when it is taken care of. From this message book I schedule appointments in my daytimer. Both these are opened first thing when I get into the office. I've learned over some time that allot of stress comes from being unorganized. I try to clean off my desk daily. I'm not saying all the work gets done daily but put into the appropriate file folder to look at, perhaps the next day.

Plain and simple...........if you have time to have a clean desk then that means you don't have any work to do, no accounts, and no lifestyle. clean desk=lack of work!!

Yeah, earlier this year I sold everything. I didn't have time for the business and working full-time at the fire dept. We work a ton of OT and keeping up with training and certifications, I just didn't have the time.

I miss it a little bit, it's funny I still check out every bodies gear when they pass......

You guys only think you have a messy desk. Here's how mine stays ... but it's recently been cleaned off.

10-10-2003, 08:56 AM
I broke tradition and also went with a 30" x 72" table........the smaller computer desks just don't work for me. I've adjusted to having the keyboard on the top of the table, also have the printer, monitor of course and a fax machine. When I need to do any writing I just slide the keyboard over and have plenty of room. Still gets junky though.

Heres my Laptop-Gateway Solo 2500-up close (no the screen isnt that dark, it was the flash on the camera that makes it look that dark). You can get these laptops off of ebay for $200-$300. 13" screen, 6 GB HD, 400 MHZ Pentium II, 256 MB RAM-2 USB ports, CD & Floppy drives (no hot-swapping back and forth).

Instead of toner, it uses wax sticks. look it up on eaby if ya get the chance. Can pick em up for around 200, but the color wax stick price is pretty steep, unless you buy in bulk.

This is my office. It's in pretty good shape for now. Just hooked up second printer and ordered checks for it. Having a dedicated check printer will be a lot easer.
