After 2 weeks of cutting with the Exmark Lazer Z, I am ready to say publicly that the Exmark cut is 10 times better than the Toro. I did not have to double cut any of the thick area'a that I have been traditionally having to go back over with my Toro. The stripes are better too. Overall it saves time by not double cutting and the discharged grass is much finer. Makes me look real good! :D :D

Its Nice when You Smell The Coffee
WOW 10 times better - I am still hesitant, a fellow LCO in this area using an Exmark isn't as happy as you are, he experiences lumps, clumps, dogging down and smoking belts when attempting to work the juicy spring grasses in this area. I do not want to start a firefight and believe that these woes are probably due to his inexperience. What I do know is that different decks work in different geographic areas and grass conditions.
My Toro with SFS works for me in this area on my lawns and I am happy. My dealer handles both Toro & Exmark and I will demo a 52" HP this spring, maybe I will be surprised.

Well,
The Toro will be able to handle TALL, WET grass at a faster pace and cut it cleaner. Its deck design allows it to evacuate vast quantities of grass rather fast. The reason is the front tunnel that is free of baffles. However, the discharged material is often said to be rather long and in need of a double cut to cut it up finer.
The eXmark will be able to handle all other conditions better. Plus if you just slow down a hair, you will go through those same TALL, WET areas and leave clippings that aren't 6" long! The front baffle in the eXmark deck allows the trim side grass to be hit by the center and discharge blades to further chop things up. Plus, the eXmark deck can mulch like no other large deck!

Ditto, Scott...maybe there is some reason that Toro is the parent company of eXmark? But, I have yet to see anyone's mower 10X better than another. Too much depends on the conditions, type of grass, moisture content, type of mower (WB vs Z), operator skills, # of blade/type confguration, blade sharpness, and customer preference on how they want their lawn to look b4 you leave.
This is a highly subjective topic...you simply cannnot "shoot from the hip" and say that something is 10 times better. Why not say 12? Or 27.39?

Nothing cuts through spring growth like an SFS deck fitted with doubles.

I got the best of both worlds... an Exmark Metro 48" WB with a Toro name on it. Saved me a bundle and cuts perfectly right outta the box. Gotta love those square edged decks...

I was going to say something similar, but I just am so sick of arguing.
My Walker and Toro's do a fine job, and I've never looked at a job I just finished and thought to myself..."wow I need a mower that does a better job." I have always been completely satisfied and so have my customers.
QUALIFING STATEMENT>>>>>>>>>>> Listen up those who would want to argue.......
I NEVER mulch. It's either S/D or bagging.
I have demo'd an Exmark SET UP AS A MULCHER and it did a great job. BUT my Toro's at the time were not set up as mulchers so I could not compare apples to apples.
I don't care anymore. Not about brand loyalty or the brand wars that go on here. In fact I'm looking at an Exmark 61" ZTR and a Great Dane 61" Super Surfer right now. The GD is in the lead right now, it's a matter of trailer space. The surfer is about a foot shorter (and 200 lbs lighter) than the ZTR and as far as S/D goes they cut just the same.
I've found out that if you purchase a "commercial grade" mower, maintain it and keep the blades sharp all brands will get the job done, and done well.
Edited to go ahead and say what's on my mind:
There is no way any mower could cut 10 times better than any other mower out there.
If that was true there would only be one mower company selling mowers anymore.....the one that cut 10 times better. :dizzy: :D

Good answer GP I like you're way of thinking. Post some more pics of you're setup when you get a chance. Any new additions?

I'm not gonna argue, I'm just going to say this-
I am perfectly content and happy with my mower and it's performance. My customers are more than happy with the results. I have not one reason to switch. Use what works for you and your customers and whatever makes you money. Live and let live! :)

IBGreen,
I got the Classen split drive aerator last fall. But other than that I can't afford any new equipment till I sell my 44" Belt drive Toro W/B with the Trac-Vac. Since I got the Walker it has sat and collected dust.
I'm looking at the Exmark and the Surfer real hard though.
Have a great season, stay safe.

Sorry to offend anyone with the 10 x better statement. What I should have said is that after being a Toro owner for 1 year I can definately see a difference in the cut on my properties located in SW Ga. I am not putting Toro down, but there is a difference that saves me time and time is $. By the way I cut some very thick and tall grass and that is where I can tell the biggest difference. Greetings to you Green Pastures! I am a Deep Creek 1980 Grad. by the way I have 5-6 sets of 52" Toro blades. I will probally be coming to Chesapeake in July. Let me know if you are interested.
Well, I'll just say that my Lazer Z cuts 10 times better than my neighbors old Crapsman! Of course, if he would sharpen his blades more than one every 3 years, properly inflate his tires, and level his deck every now and then I might not go for the full "10 times better"...but then again...... :D

Blessed 1, no offence taken, just trying to temper the comments on Lawnsite.
Thanks for the offer on the blades, I think I have that many sets myself, so I don't really need them. I'm sure you can find somebody who can use them.
God bless you, have a great season,
right angle, deep decks are the only way to produce an even cut. have owned exmark lazer z's in the past, had good results. i am currently enjoying great dane standers (surfers).

The exmark is quite a bit better in my grass xconditions and i ve owned both toro and exmark.
The toro shoots the clippings out to long cut off 3 inchs thats what gets discharged doesnt chop up clippings worth a lick.
Ive run both exmark and toro for hundreds of hours, exmark is clearly the better cutting machine in my market and my conditions.
