Silly question but been looking at Dixie, Exmark & Scag.
All entry level mowers one step above residential use and basic for commercial (I'm told). All motors range from 19-20 HP and deck sizes from 48 to 51. Prices from $5,500 to $6,500. Will use the mower for 10 weekly lots 100 x 100. Tired of the research and looking for a quick answer on what mower is best. Dixie guys say their machine is simple and less likely to malfunction but it looks like a friggin tin can with wheels. Everyone else says Tiger cub may not hold up and the 48 in deck doesn't have enough trim ability. Lastly, the Dixie guy (who also sells Exmark) says that the Exmark is prone to repair and he knows......cause he works on em. Recommends Dixie because the company is small and support is good. I forgot all of the model numbers and they all seem just about the same Please...........anybody.............which one is best?

I'm in New Jersery, between Somerville and Morristown. IMO, the Hustler WB is the best WB you can buy (48" hydro, floating deck, 17 Kaw, under $4,500 built like a tank)........ I will glady let you demo my machine and decide for yourself.......

down in louisiana, a 17 HP 48" floating deck runs right at $3,400. I just purchased a Gravely 13 HP 32" for $2,200.

Have not had any problems.

Going out on limb, I'm talking (dual pump hydro) for under $4,500, are you talking hydro or just a belt drive...........

I use the exmark 48" with a 21 horse motor 5 days a week and the trim ability on these mowers is great.I've never used the scag or the dixie so i don't know about them. The only problem with the exmark was the recall on the Kawasaki motor which has been resolved(and a little extra wheelspin).

I'm just a GC not a dealer.I've been in the field for 18yrs and on my own for 2yrs. I've used all types and my greatest respect goes to SCAG. Belt driven or hydro it runs like a Cadillac. I've just purchased a new 48" belt drive with a 15hp Kawi..No complaints whatsoever!! In the beginning of the season SCAG ran a promotion on these for $3,100/15hp and $3,600/17hp...hydro's only have 17hp for $4,700...some will fanagle the cost if you buy it outright in cash or business check.............just my opinion..good luck. They also come with decks from 32/36/48/52/64/72" depending on your needs........the prices I quoted were for the 48" which is standard.

Why buy a z for those small lots......get a 36 to a 48 walk behind and save a couple of thousand. Unless you have very deep pockets. Get a sulkie and you will cut about as fast as a z. This would also be more than a "step" above residential quality.

i happned to walk in the lesco store at the right time had a sale on everything during march... for walk behinds around 600 off.. i got the 52" for 600 off and then it had 34.3 hrs on it cause people demoed it outside on the lesco lawn so they knocked anoterh 200 off it so i saved $800 off my 2003 lesco 52" walk behind it eneded up costing the sale price of the 48" at 3,200. get first mower... although i am considering the deisel exmark z turn for a 35 acre set of propeties x35 cuts a year.. will more than pay the 14,000 required to purchase the deisel and then they want leaves so another 1,400 .. anyone know anything bout the deisel version?

All those pictures of the guy with the Exmark banner wore me down.
