Gmc 1-ton, Good and bad opinions needed

I have been looking for a 1-ton dump for awhile now, and came across a 1988 GMC 1-ton with 90K miles on it. Also it has a 6.2 Liter Diesel motor.
Does anyone have any experience with This type of engine or better yet the truck itself ? ANY input would be helpful, thanks.

Thats fairly low milage.

But it is a 15+ y/o truck.

Hope its going cheap. What are they asking?

If the engine has lasted this long, it'll probably last a good bit longer. They aren't known for power though. So you'll be slow going with a full load up a hill.

Unless its real cheap and rustfree and clean, and the dump is in good shape, I'd stay away and look for a newer unit.

The old chevy's are the best 4x4 with leaf springs nice solid axels and being an '88 it is next to the last model year for reg. C&C as far as the engine converted gas to diesel not very good but on the up side if you get the truck cheap and it's in good condition no rust holes or rocker/fender rot you could re-power with a cummings.:D .

You will probably will find it lacks power you will be climbing hills in 2nd or 1st with a loaded truck I think a 350 has more power than a 6.2 . The truck would have tobe in exceptional shape and a good price if you are gonna buy it because you will probably hate the power.

My dad had an '86 K-20 with a 6.2 and 4 spd as a company truck. I drove the truck on a few different occasions. That was one tough truck, but the 6.2 was a dog. It, however, was a reliable engine in that truck contrary to what some people say. They did have some troubles with those engines in the early years...mainly with the head gaskets (around '82-'84 or so). Dads truck still ran great in 1996 when the mine closed. The only thing wrong with the engine was a leaky injector. Other than that, it was great. Gravel Rat is right about the 350 being more powerful than the 6.2 . I would put the 6.2's performance in the same catagory of a TBI 4.3 V6...not the CPI 4.3. So, pretty much expect V6-like performance from and engine that is really a V8. Like i said before, the 6.2 is a dog, but if you decide to get it, go easy on it, maintain it, and it should do a good job for you. That body style of truck was hard to beat for durability.

i have A 6.2 w/ 240000 miles and still running strong only thing wrong was employee abuse
