I was reading in past threads that some of you use rails for screediing base . Or even use it to get pitch . My guestion is what is a rail? Are they 2in so that when your done screeding once you may tamp it and do it again What the hack is a rail?

We use 1" gas pipe.

Most guys use the 1" OD steel pipe, gas pipe, 10 feet long as screed pipes. Most of the pipes used are round therefore, they are pipes. I have had some that were square. We called them rails.

If you are screeding sand most will use pipes. If you are screeding base most will use square.

You do use the pipes/rails to set the pitch.

3/4" black iron pipe has a 1" OD. That is what we use. We have them 3', 6', and 10' long
