Lesco is the only dealership that is close to me. i desperately need a 36" mower (belt) and their prices seem reasonable ,$2400 new. I have seen a bunch of guys around my area with this brand. what do you all think of them?

I Have used lesco since i started and have had a 36" belt driven for 3 years now, still works great. I have no complaints, and the guys at my local lesco are great on customer service.

You better look harder for a dealer...you are in Pittsburgh area...there has to be dealers for all major brands of equipment. For that price...you could get the same of a namebrand.

Isn't LESCO a name brand? Lesco is definitely a good machine.

Lesco is a great NAME BRAND machine. We have two Lesco Wbs and a Viper. One WB is over 5yrs old and runs as good as the new one.

i think theyre might be an exmark dealer around here. i'm guessing that i would have to dish out around $2600 for one of their new 36"s. do you think its worth the extra money.

Have one of each. Lesco is an alright mower. Only small things keep keep braking. I.E. brake bands. Kinda a pain every morning to grease the spindles along with all the other required points. Hate the pistol grips. Exmark no problems after initial set up> Better cut and the ECS controls are much more comfortable for me. While at the Lesco dealer buying a 23 dollar brake band saw a flier that they had 36 in belt for 2395. Two weeks ago at the exmark dealer they had a 36 metro pistol grip under 2100 and ecs for 2300. Would be an easy decision, go find an exmark dealer and check out the prices.

Good Luck

I asked for input on Lescos here on lawnsite & read a ton of old threads before I spent the money on a 48 hydro wb & a 32 belt. I'm happy with the work they get done and my purchase.

Personally I like the Toro "T-bar" but Lesco makes a fine machine as well

I have a 48' inch, belt driven, walk behind. I have had it about 2 years now. It's taken some beating and it still works great. It also strips great.

Here's a pic of some stripes with from my Lesco 36" belt drive. MIne has "Jungle Wheels" sulky on it. I think about any sulky would work on them. I have had good luck with this machine and it has about 500 hours on it. If this is oging to be your main mower, think about getting a hydro, I wish mine was.

I have the Lesco sulky, I like the Castor ones over the full pivot & slam into handle bar ones.
Drought stripes. No grass to cut just make nice lines & send the bill.

I have a 1991 Scag 52" hydro. It has never once failed me and takes a severe beating. Cuts and stripes great. Nearly the same thing as a Lesco like "Got Grass" has.

BTW, I run a two wheel trailing sulky (like Jungle Wheels or Velke X2) and on my mower and my properties I don't see how I would live with a castering sulky like the Lesco ones. Even with a 52" hydro mower and me weighing 160 lbs I don't think it would work well at all but then I have alot of hilly areas and a few steep banks. For me the two wheel trailing sulky is the only way to go.

The two wheel trailing sulky also snakes in and around trees and landscaping, good for tight areas. It also won't swing you out into something or over a curb, into a building or fence etc. when turning! You would have a hard time running a castering sulky on a belt drive for sure. If you're getting a hydro drive then I'd say look at the TrimmerTrap Bullrider sulky. It's dual mode, you can switch from caster to trailing in just seconds. I like the castering sulky concept it just doesn't work for my application. The Bullrider would let you change it to trailing for that hill, or a wet day, etc. and put it back in caster mode when you're on fairly dry level ground with alot of obstacles :) it probably won't be any cheaper than the Lesco sulky but probably worth it if you can. payup

BHB is right about about being swung out on the castering style sulky. It just takes a little practice. Everyone has their own style, but you could make a pass around the perimeter then start your pattern & avoid being swung over a curb or into a fence. I think one advantage to the castering style is that you don't jack-knife when backing up. If I get into a pinch, like a tight area or sandy/soft turf, I just slow it way down & step off to make a turn. Actually, I slow it way down for all turns.

Check to make sure your blades are the proper length. I had the problem a few years ago when I thought I'd save some money and ordered blades from Landscaper's Supply only to find out each blade was 1/4" shorter than specs. That 1/4" made a 1/2" more gap allowing the strip of grass.

Contra. Try high lift blades, or a high lift on the discharge side and a regular lift on the left. Then put gators on top of those blades and yo should get a real nice cut. I did:D

Our Lesco dealer does not have a service/ repair department. Anything that needs fixed has to be sent 40 miles away. I am surprised they sell any here due to that fact. BTW the first Lesco WB (proto type) was a Scag painted green! I have all Scags and love them.
