John Deere belt

I just replaced the main belt on my LX172. But not sure I have it routed correctly, because it is so tight the clutch doesn't work. I almost ran it through the garage wall! Does it loosen as it gets broke in?

It will loosen up a little, but not enough to remedy your lack of a working clutch.

Did you get the right belt? The reason that I ask is that I ordered a part from a local dealer with the part number that I supplied. I got the part and it was the wrong part he had written the wrong number down so the part I got wasn't even a pulley. (Found out they are paying this poor kid min wage.) I guess you get what you pay for.
