Hey Everyone,

I was just wondering how everyone does their pricing. Is it per hour, per job, per sq ft? If by sq ft how do you set your price? Also I have a 6x12 landscape trailer for sale. It has new deck, lights, paint, tires and a side storage box for 1150 if anyone is interested.

How do you guys chase the customers that did not pay you? Do you use any collection company in the area?Do you file a complaint? Where? a Mecanic Lien? what!!!! Please help!!! I do not what else to do with this guy!!!!!
I have a customer that did not pay me for several months, every time I call him he says that the check is in the mail, sometimes he says that he will drop it off but he is a BS artist. On a sunday I went to his house but I couldn't reach him. I call him too, but now he doesn't pick up his cell phone, and he has no home phone. What else can I do at this point?
The amount that he owes is from last year services. We do not do snow removal for him and we stoped all services until payment is made ( I told him that) but it seems that he doesn't care because the property that we take care for him is a rentalproperty that he has. He doesn't live in there.
Please advise me

I do this part time and yes I do leaves. If I am able to rid of them in the woods of the property I work on with the owners permission that what I do. Most of thetime they say just put them in the woods which makes things alot easier. If I haul them out, I charge and additional $45.00 per pickup tuck load.

Ok everyone how many of you do leaf clean ups? Lets see pics of the clean up equipment. Anyone from the Great Lowell area? Whats everyone charging for the leaf clean ups? I had one old timer come up to me and ask why I don't wait till all the leaves are down and come only once in stead of coming twice that way it would save money for the customer. I told him what's the difference if I come twice for 2 hrs or come back once for 4 hrs? Anyway lets hear what everyone has to say.

Oh my leaf clean up truck can be seen on my website. Sorry the siteis havin some repairs so it's a little messy.

T Mathews, we do rent the blower out. We can do it by the yard or by the hour, depending what works best for you. We supply the blower, a skilled operator and a 1 ton dump if needed. It took us a good season to get good with the blower, so it really pays to get the operator with the blower. You would definately see a reduction in the amount of mulch used. This will be our 3rd season with the blower and I could never push wheelbarrows again. We will travel as well. - Bill

We used to have a Kubota similar to yours that we would load the hopper with, this year we will use a bobcat. If its a large site with a lot of mulch the loader option is definately worth it, for the smaller ones its just as easy to shovel from the truck to the hopper. The hopper holds like 1.5 yards. We will go wherever to blow bark

So if I supply the mulch and the men to manually load it. How much per hour? I have one account that uses 10 yds, but it's a long hike from the front of the building to the rear by wheel barrel and normly I use the tractor, but it's been real soft back there the past few years so I don't risk it. Another acount uses 14yds, but that my change due to construction soon on the property.

what is the name of your company if you dont mind. thanks

My company name is Kelly Green LawnCare, which falls under Kelly Green Contracting, INC. Another division is Kelly Green Plumbing, my oldest son. Another is Kelly Green Roofing and Construction, my second oldest son. Kelly Green Finances, is run by my 3rd and 4th oldest sons. My daughter, the youngest of the siblings, is a hair stylist and hasn't branched out on her own as of yet. And my wife, a retired banker, takes care of all of the books and the legal aspects.

Just a quess, but, I would think that the "Disney" thing would be an infringement. I would imagine that the Disney people have all of the rights to that name covered. When I relocate in August to Daytona, I will still carry the same name: Kelly Green LawnCare. I have already filed for the name in the state of Florida. How about "Kelly Green LawnCare", SouthEast Division, Daytona, Fl.? Sounds good? Maybe not. Just leave it at Kelly Green LawnCare. OH, by the way...My daughter's first name is KELLY.

WARM, you wanna talk about warm! 82 today, and I cut down 6 Fruit Gum trees. Like a hot knife thru butter, as compared to those elms, maples and oaks at home. Stacked all of the brush and 4-footers at the curbing, for the city to pick-up in the morning. I wanna see the looks on their faces, when they see the 4-footers! Then I will be off to the beach to look at all of the college girls on spring break. I just love this Daytona Beach thing !!!

Hey guys, I have an older Walker (1993), that I want to get rid of. It is a GHS unit, with 48" rebuilt deck. It has new tires and rims. I put new belts on it. I have a new seat for it. ONE PROBLEM: something is wrong with the left wheel motor/pump. The left side does NOT drive. It has a 20 hp. Kohler, that runs real strong, sitting in the yard. I bought this as a fixer-upper. I have done MOST of the needed work. Would make a great spare, for parts, or something to tinker with in your spare time. I am moving to Florida in the near future, and need to move this thing. My loss is your gain. Don't hesitate, just P.M. me and we can make a really great deal. Hurry, before it goes to the scrap yard. Also, you can e-mail me: jpjdjr@aol.com...Thanks, JIM.

Gave the business up on the 1st of July. Now my wife and I are going thru some medical problems...BUT...hope to get on the road in a month or two. We are both going in for operations the end of July/beginning of August. A few weeks of recuperating and away we go. We are both getting on each others nerves in the last couple of weeks. I don't think that I could EVER retire and stay home all day long. I would end up arrested for murder...

How is everyone doing so far this winter? I 'm hurting and I don'e even plow. Well I do,but not for myself anymore I plow for someone else. I've got plans to put up a 20x50 metal building starting in MArch/April I can't wait.

I plowed once this year. feb 3rd. Thats sucks. I dont mind it though. I hate shoveling and dealing with all the slop when it starts to melt. You have to be able to save up your winter money before the summer is over.

hey should i get my hopes up for this strom on wed, or should i just take off the plow and the sander.. only then it might snow..however i have spent a lot of time on bids..they look sooo nice.. it good when you can spend 4 hours on each one..at least the celtics are doing well.:dizzy: .go \Bruins

Guys while the ice is still on the ground we should get our Price's set for 07. Not to under bid each other but to possibly get our prices up so we can all make some more money.

Great idea...........I 'm mostly a maintenance Co. But would like to do some more work with my kubota..........thinking about getting a back hoe for it.........I charge $125 per hr w/ a min of 3 hrs. Is that too high not high enough or just right.......

STONE SCAPES
02-19-2007, 11:56 PM
Hey T.Matthews I have a kabota L-35 w/back hoe and love it. Tight in small spots but this thing can dig like a monster. If you get one get a rock thumb for it. Makes moving rocks and logs quick work. As for the price does rate go down if it's a 7 hr job. Maybe like $125hr 3hr min and $100hr after 6hr's. Just an idea

I know their are more than just t.mattews and i from mass reading this. The idea is to get to geather and make pricing at a level we can all make living and to help outlast the low ballers.

Getting everyone to charge the same will never happen. There are too many variables in what you have to charge to make a profit. That is probably why no one has posted.

I agree. New guys startting out with little equipment can always charge less and make a good profit. I'm downsizing this year, less over head, same price, should be very profitable in 2007.....Time will tell....

STONE SCAPES
02-24-2007, 11:53 AM
Your right but getting the general pulse of the market will benefit everyone. Maybe you will get a new be who reads this and charges more. Granted he may not have the same overhead as we do, but if he charges more he will make more money. That will help everyone. The low ballers will always be their but thats why they come and go. They can,t afford to live. Great place to pickup extra equipment. With newbe's charging more allows us to get a reasonable price for the hard work we do. If we can raise price's by an avg of $5 per account X 30 accounts X 30 weeks = $4'500 more at the end of the year. Now I'm not saying you raise your lowest by 5 buck but maybe by $2.50 and your highest by $7.50.

Hey..We're out here on Martha's Vineyard. Can't wait to see things green up!!! Been doin' lawns and other landscaping work here since 1994. Decided last year to narrow my focus & go strictly with lawn care services. I would rather do one thing and do it really well than try to offer everything and do it all half-a$$ed. I just found out about Lawn-Site from a fellow student in a turf management class I took last fall. I've been cruising the posts and getting a feel for the site. I think I will be visiting often! Hey, good luck to all of you out there. Have a GREAT 2007 Season!! :weightlifter:

Although I grew up in Acton I have been in the Berkshires since 73'. My business is located in Dalton (Pittsfield area). I retired (early) 5 years ago and then started my Lawn and Landscaping Company. Biggest problem is finding good (even fair) help. Just seems impossible. I now work alone most of the time but it does limit your income.
