I'm seeing this service offered around town. Just curious how they charge. By the pound? I've done some weird jobs but that will not be one of them for me personally. Maybe I can offer 50-50 if my guys will do it. I know the first thing they'll say. "You got to be kidding, right?" How does one motivate someone to do this. I would also think there would be a lot of call backs, "you missed some", type of calls. I think some employees would just quit. Any thoughts from anyone on this service?

Some people are full of it. Some people shovel it. I guess you could pick it up then...haha!
I have seen it as a service here as well but not sure how it would be. I think in the right high end area's it would be the ticket, but getting in there and pricing it right make for a whole different ball game.

How can we get the low-ballers to pick up this work? They deserve it.

If it is only one or two my guys will do it as it is obvious that the customer has been considerate.
If it looks like that it has not been done since our last cut we will not touch it

I think the owners should do, its their animal, part of maintenance responsibility:)

Thats funny, I forgot to add to my above post, I just recently purchased a enclosed trailer, and was talking to my helper about that, whole new ballpark now:)
It would be bad when the smell of gas and that stuff mixes

New for this yr my service agreement states (Pet owners must keep area to be serviced clean. If we must clean the area you will be charged $10 each time.) So far we havent had anymore problems with doggy dirt.

There have been several posts about this in the past. Some of the information given is that there are companies that just come and pick up dog waste on a regular basis. The bill is based on the number of dogs and there size. I do not do this nor will I ever.

You won't see me doing it, I also think the homeowner should do it

I doo. If it is just a one time thing just pick it up and be about my business. If it is more than that add a couple of bucks on the bill. Never had any complaints yet. 10 dollars for a couple of minutes work with a shovel and a Winn Dixie bag.

If it's there first time I will say to them "since this is your first time I will let it go but, from now on I will charge $5- per pile) When I say let it go I mean open the chute and aim towards the house. :p

There is no way in this world i will pick up someone elses dog poop. I will puke all over their lawn, making it worse.
I have in my service agreement that all loose items be removed from the turf prior to our scheduled day. IE.hoses, toys, DOG DROPPINGS.
yardman1
that is VERY unprofessional. you need to talk with the client to work the problem out. Not run through it, ruin their lawn, and than clean your mower on their dime!!

I have mixed feelings on this issue, I do belive its the owners responsablity to clean up all poop prior to mowing (if they are on a scheduled date) We have and did recently do this so we could do a spring cleanup. I charged $60.00 for this service and told customer if you dont clean on every Thursday by 9am we will either not mow in that area or area's or an addition $60.00 will be added to service listed as unsanitary disposal, I think you could do it but if you are you should charge at least what the mowing account is for! If they drop you OH WELL!!!!

Grassmaster, I have talked to them and they will not pick it up and they will not pay to have it picked up so I run over it. these yards are not on the covers of southern living, they are some that only want there grass mowed and I have had them for several years. Oh and by the way you do not know me so do not call me UNPROFESSIONAL.:D

I know what you wrote though. From that i can form an opinion about you. What you did was unprofessional.
Get some higher end accounts.

Why are you all so against scooping poop? I honestly dont see the problem with that, assuming that i am payed well.
Scott, please keep the cat in the bag.

Ok here is the answer and I am surprised that all you smart pople didn't think of it. Cut around it!! I did this to a client one time after I told him to clean it up many times.
I got a phone call one evening telling me I missed a bunch of places on his yard. I explained to him that those "37" high spots of grass had poop in them and that I would cut them next week when he removed them. He said, "37 piles?" I said yes. He had no idea there were that many. From then on there were no more piles.
One thing I hate is throwing that stuff up on me with the tires.

I hate picking my own dogs up so I sure as hell ain't picking up after someone elses dog. I like nelbuts idea, I don't like **** all over my stuff, not to mention the smell on a really hot day!!!

Poo, what poo? I didn't see a thing... I try to not even look at unless i know it's going to be close to where my foot is going, or the trimmer line  . The only poo i pick up is the lucky pile that gets smeared around with my mower tire. lol
Just had to add my .02. You're welcome

"Ruin there lawn"???? They're leaving dog **** in the yard for crying out loud!!!!
They're not only being rude (because they know you're coming), but they're being pigs for leaving it there in the first place.
Yardman, I think that's funny that you use THIER hose to clean it off your equipment. LOL!
Buuuut, I will say that you should probably talk with them and see if you can avoid it altogether.

Been there, done that. As a negotiated part of a full service seasonal contract. Didn't do it myself, done by employees. No-one ever quit or complained (much) but one customer always found something we missed. I don't know what he was feeding those dogs, I'd see a doctor if mine was like that. Picked it up w/ a shovel and buried it in a hole dug in his shrub beds

yea thats so funny.
did you just use peoples restrooms or make yourself a sandwich when you were delivering furniture?
you seem to have gained alot of knowledge of how to be a real professional delivering couches and refrigerators for 14 years.

Did a spring cleanup last week where the grass was so tall that nobody could have found the poo from the owner's dog prior to cutting. There was plenty of poo, too.
No, I didn't clean it up from the yard as I am not a Zoo Keeper. (Don't get me wrong, I love my own dogs and clean up after them at home.) I did, however, have to hose down my equipment before it had "stuff" petrified to it.
Again, there is probably no blanket solution for this issue, but we'll most all have to deal with it from time to time. Hey, we could be working office jobs that we don't like, right?

Awww, now you've hurt my feelings.
Geez, who knew my comment would have ruffled your feathers? Lighten up Nancy.
LOL! LOL!. Just read your profile!!LOL! 27 years old, been in business "almost 20 years".
Hey dork, when you mow your mommies lawn at 7 years old, YOUR NOT IN BUSINESS!
Oh brother, that's pathetic.
LOL!

hmmm ... when i shoveled most my neighbors drives, and many more at 7, wouldn't i gain knowledge of communicating with people? That is something that seems to have slipped your grasp. Along with the know-how on doing business with people ( don't wash your mower with their hose)
Something that obviously eluded you also our ability to argue constructively (don't call names, and make fun of mama) You need to show some maturity, and professionalism. Neither one has been displayed here, or from the sounds of it, with your clients.
Don't get jealous because your mad at yourself for making someone else rich for 14 years, and i was smart enough not to make that move. Don't worry, you'll be a professional some day. Keep trying. Have a nice!

how does poop ruin the yard. I always thought it was fert. has anyone asked the dog if he had a lic. to apply it. I guess the animals also apply N in the urea form this is a big nono. They should be considerate and spread it around some in the bare spots. Just mow over the ****. charge them a dollar for every pile you mow over and 1000 bucks for every one you hit with the weedeater.
goodbeus i hope you didnt have your mouth open.

I do as nelbuts has said - mow around the piles when they do not have it cleaned up. It is cleaned when I get back the next week.

Last year I picked up a lawn that was very well kept in the front but the last yard man didn't keep the back well cared for because of all the poop. I decided to tell them that I would remove all the poop piles (Over 100 huge fresh piles) for a $90.00 fee and then weekly after that for $40.00. They paid the $90.00 without any complaints but the next week I went by to cut and there was no poop, no doggie toys, no doggie water bowl and no danged DOGGIE!! They sold the poop factory and said they had had enough. They told me they never wanted the dog anyway but it was left there by their daughter when she went to college. Now they thank me for a wonderfull looking lawn and they have back yard partys monthly. It changed their life.

yep you said that already ... started when i was 10 ( with clients). im 27. 27-10=17 (nearly 20) years of running MY OWN business. (Still have some original clients BTW) Can you think of anything more constructive to say or are you just going to repeat yourself? Whats with you guys and making fun of how long someone has been making money?
I guess dog poop is good for the yard? It dont leave dead spots or anything, huh? Amazing. I guess my dog poops round up.
