View Full Version : stihl replacement carbs? do they work?

wondering about the generic appearing replacment carbs in the J. Thomas catalogs. Are they really a good replacement for about 50 bucks? Seems as though they couldn't be worse on starting from a normal factory Stihl carb. Anyone with experience with these please comment.

I don't know about the J thomas carbs but if you have the still carb from a few years ago, no no H/L adjustment screws but one shiny chrome one, they are junk. Stihl stopped making them. They worked great under lab conditions but in the field the tiniest, smallest itty bitty piece of dirt that got in them screwed them up. Stihl has gone back to the H/L adjustment carbs with limiting caps. Much better starting and running. I get them for ~55.00 plus tax.

xpnd, where did you get your replacement carb from? was it a stihl? thanks
