Well all, it happened. My big "Party" failed miserably. OUt of 90 or so customers i had 1 show up. ANd that might be because i gave her a ride. hehe. I had family and some friends out there. The park lady was real nice. She took my card to give to people she knows needs it. LOL> now THAT is funny. I have over 120 hamburgers and 60 hot dogs left. I think i am gonna make a generous donation to the local food bank today.
So, the party failed and i wasted alot of money. BUMMER. I could have used that money to put twords other equipment i want. Oh well. The big 300$ announcement i put in the paper didnt work at all.
Now yall know not to do this.
We live and we learn.

Sorry do hear that Acute. Maybe you should have advertised a drawing for prizes. Like a door prize. People like to win anything and get stuff for free

Sorry to hear your plan did not work. I will give you a hard learned piece of advice.
Stop wasting your money in newsprint adds. They are the most ineffective way to reach clients of any advirtising medium.
For a start up and growing business, the Yellow pages is where you must spend your money. Be prepared to spend $ 500, (ouch) dollars per month. It will pay for itself.
Start devloping word of mouth and refferal business. Sell upgrades to existing clients.
Don't bother inviting clients to company functions. Keep the realtionship strictly business.
Learned the hard way.Business was in a city /service area of under 50,0000 people.

Hello Looser:
Now I can tell how you got your name!
http://www.idontcare.com, It would make a excellent home page for you, maybe you should start your own forum?

Acute, Sorry to hear about your party. Your heart was in the right place, maybe it was the wrong time. Just think of all the hungry mouths you'll be feeding at the food bank. :)
Plus you can take it off on your taxes. Maybe it's not a good idea to get too personal with your customers, I don't know?

Acute, you need to find the best advertising for the dollar. Phone book advertising is good if you can afford it. Remember, if you gross 10% profit you will have to sell $5000.00 worth of business just to pay for that one phone book ad, not practical for small business. Great advice I received from a local LMO, every $100.00 you save, is $1000.00 in work you do not have to do.
Sorry to hear that acute. It sounded like a great idea. Dont give up. maybe you can have one next year and invite alot of relatives and customers, but do it in the spring. If no customers show then atleast the family will be there. Just remember you took a shot at a very good idea and maybe you have the knowledge on how to make it work next time. When you do it next and the relatives and friends show, they will tell other friends that the were at a bbq hosted by Acute lawn service and the word will get around.
Keep your chin up, dont give up.
Best Wishes
Just remember your better than that looser landscaping.

I think this is how your clients think of your efforts, NOTHING. They want everything but want to pay nothing.
The client does not CARE about you or me..............
Sorry curlawngreen, but I have to disagree. If any one desides to do anything good for another when they talk behind your back it is mostly positive. But I will agree with you alittle that are people out there that dont appreciate much and expect alot. Back in their subconcious minds they do know acute lawn service as being pretty thoughtful for throwing a bbq for them. (somewhere in their minds i'm sure)
Best wishes

My hat off to you, Acute!
To try and fail in far better than to never have tried.
You miss 100% of the shots you don't take.

Sorry about the no shows but i don't think that 120 hamburgers would have coverd your town oh well hav you thought about having a drawing once a month to your customers giving away a dinner for two? they know your work
and after give them a giftcert. from a nice resturant i am sure ther'll let their freinds know ... just a thought.

I ran up to Canada with a pal today to get away. I was pretty bummed out for sure. Then, while up there, i happened to run into an abundance of bums and homeless people for some reason. They looked miserable. Some had skin diseases and smelled bad. I felt truly sorry for them.
The point of the story is that on the way home i got to thinking about it. SO what if no one showed. I DID try. Thought counts. They all knew i threw it and that is all that matters. Not the actual food or anything.
After the whole ordeal i still have a job that i LOVE to do. I still have a roof over my head and so forth. And to top it all off, at the end of the day i can come onto here and get the professional backing from all you guys. Thanks for the support. Maybe next year ill just invite all of you to the BBQ!

Good post Lazer.
I see that Loserlandscaping is now a guest and not a member. Thanks!, we don't need trouble makers on the forum.
