Sounds like your electric clutch may need some air gap adjustment.
Take it to your dealer if your not familiar with the procedure.
If the air gap adjustment does not do it, I would have your dealer check the electric windings in the clutch.
Your dealer may or may not cover this under warranty, have the dealer call the factory with your model and serial # for warranty consideration.
Hope this helps

My new Super Z has the same problem, only does it when its hot. Dealer put on a new PTO switch last week. Didn't do any good. Its going back to the dealer on Monday. You can either shut the machine off and let it cool down or shake the machine with the hydro levers, back and forth to ingauge the clutch. You have to shake it hard so don't shake it on good turf or you will have some bare spots.

I am 49 years old helping my 15 year old and i sure did not buy this machine to stop and shake it to make the blades turn. mower consult gave me a couple of ideas to check so i will do this before i decied to trade it in. i always had the problem off & on but not as bad as it is now.
I just had to replace the clutch on mine...I hope I didn't just waste money. Not sure if it's in warantee or not. My walkbehind will do it from time to time too. Did I just waste money???? They said the gap was only .001 out of spec.
Any input?

Maybe Hustler needs to change thier brand of clutches. None of my friends have any clutch problems with the variety of other brands of mowers in use.

I think he meant to say Kawasaki.
The Kohler 27 hp engine just started shipping on our units this month.

The 27 Kohler is a carbed unit

Interesting, I'm having the same issue. If I mow and then stop to pick up trash the blades will not re-engage. I have to pull the engage button, slow the throttle down and then go full throttle or as said above shake the h*** out of it.

Kirby,
Please take your unit over to Chads and have him test the wiring at the clutch connector, if it is ok, then have him test the clutch.
Your clutch may need the air gap adjusted or it may need to be replaced.
E-mail me if you have any problems

After I read this post for the first time last week , I started having the same problems. It worked fine when I do my residential properties, but when I mow large areas and stop to get off the mower for trash or get off a curb I can't engage the blades. The blades will engage if I shake the mower. I'll have to take it in to Land & Coates in Va. Beach and have them check it out.

I hope this issue is fixed by the time I make my purchase.
Who is the MFG of that clutch and can I have the specs?

The clutch that is having these problems is a Ogura.
We have stopped using them and have switched to the Warner clutch.
I can get you the info on models next Tuesday when I can contact the factory.

I spoke to Chad about it the other day, he thought it may be a lose wire, this sounds more like the problem. I will let him know, Warner clutches slike a better idea...

Pto clutches are just like clutches in a car. They need to be adusted from time to time.If you drop the clutch in your car at full speed what does it do?Wear. This is not just in Hustler brand equipment either. There clutches out there that are self adjusting but they cost more. So get your feeler guages out and check your clutches!!!!!!!!!!!!!! It what they call maintance.
thanks

Mowerman,
I am taking delivery of my Fastrak sometime next week. How can I tell if it has the new Warner clutch? If it doesn't, will hustler make the exchange for me free of charge? This issue concerns me, especially since I haven't signed the dotted line yet.

All FasTraks ever produced use the Warner clutch.
Absolutely no problems with them either.
