Carpetweed

I have Carpetweed and other grassy weeds growing along with the lawn- I overseeded about 3 weeks ago and most of the new grass is in- Because I watered the seed a lot- the other grassy weeds grew in as well- Can I put something down to thicken the lawn and get rid of these grassy weeds?? Will turf builder help or will is hurt newer grass?

Scotts has a fertilzer out for new grass that won't hurt it and help prevent weeds and help the new grass thicken and become stronger/fuller. Just look for a all green bag, its not one of the Step Plans just a "seperate fertilizer."
