Obviously you've never been on a dixie chopper or you wouldn't make this comment. A dixie chopper is the machine that all other ztr's is compared to. This is not bragging, just fact. There is currently no other mid mount ztr that will out mow a dixie chopper flatlander. Dixies are not perfect by any means, but they can flat out out mow any other mower currently in production. lynn-rats5656 wrote that he has never even seen a dixie chopper, therefore, he has obviously never been on one.

Rats, are you saying you never watched Home Improvement when it was on? If you did and saw the mower with the Jet Engine, you saw a Dixie Chopper. I took a picture of it when I was on the DC factory tour and it's on my website. There are 15 dealers in New Jersey so there has to be a dealer not to far away from you. I've tried out several differant brands and they are the only ones I have used that don't even have any type of steering dampener on them and are so easy to operate and work on if you ever have to. Go check one out and you will be able to see what we are crowing about. :D

Hey guys I'm in Jersey too and your right, you don't see to many Dixies around here. I've only see them a coupple times. Couple weeks ago I saw a company cutting the baseball fields in town with them and I was amazed at how fast they where going and the stripes where real nice too. Mostly only see Scags, Exmarks, Bobcats around here. I only know of one Dixie dealer in Jersey and they're 1.5 hours away right near LBI.

I don't think New Jersey is to big of a state and as I said, there are 15 dealers there. Go to the DC site and click on dealer locator to see all the listings if your interested. I'm not sure how other manufactures build their mowers, but I was amazed when I took the DC tour to see that they are still hand assembled there. Sort of like a Rolls Royce. :D

Hey guys, where I am located in southern middle TN, the lawn care companies run mostly Ferris, Woods, Grasshoppers and Kees. I'm the only guy here running a Dixie. My closest dealer is 1.5 hrs away. Haven't had to go back to the dealer yet, and I got my DC in April. It is the most reliable mower I have owned. I mow part time so I need a good dependable mower to keep my customers happy. I get asked all the time how I like my Dixie and I tell who ever ask that "I Love it". It stripes better than any mower around here, and I'm not just saying that because it is mine. I get lots of compliments on how the lawns I mow look.
My next mower will be another Dixie Chopper.

The Zero-turn mowers are great for speed and the ability to turn around easy.I own a Dixie Chopper and there arent that many around here either, mostly Bobcats.I dont think there is anything special about a Dixie that makes it better than another brand,if there is its speed.Mine hasnt been very reliable and it doesnt cut that great either in certain grass types, but it is fast when its running on an open area.It is fairly easy to work on to,good thing for that, ive been turning wrenches more that Im used to on a new machine. The pluses of a DC are very fast, easy to service, extra cooling on top of line models, light weight, heavy built deck, strong hydro sytem. The minuses are poor trim capabiltys, way to wide a track width for deck size, seat height is very high, you have to retrim everything after you switch to Dixie, the high seat height lets it buck you when you hit a bump too,it pitches you forward and back as you move along, this gets to your back after a while.Mine is 5 months old and has been in the shop over 7 times already and its still not right,so mine has been unreliable, but others have had great reliablity-this doesnt help me at all.I hate the tiny twin 3 gallon tanks,if this machine can run all day,it should carry enough fuel to do so.I also hate the white seat, its comfy, but white is so hard to keep clean,it looks bad easy and is impossible to keep clean.

I have never used a chopper, but my yards are very scalp prone. I think a chopper will tear them up. My next mower is a 60" exmark.

the chopper has earned its place in the lawn care biz i have no complants mine cuts great
I also am in nj time to time and here in pa I don't see too many dc's and also see alot of bocats and exmark z's and occassionally a scag rider. I have yet to see a dc on a trailer riding by me. That's probably cause we need a dealer here near philly.

As John mentioned, all mowers have their strengths & weaknesses. Honestly, you couldn't get a Dixie to do ALL of my route.
Flat stuff, sure. It'll outrun my Bobcat hands down. As soon as you get on some of my hillsides, the DC will stay on the trailer. There are a few hills I have that the Bobcat won't even cut-time to break out the Steiner 220.
If I had tons o' money & enuf clientele', I'd have a dixie, bobcat, steiner & Walker type mower. The Bobcat will also trim & maneuver smoother than a DC, but time behind the "sticks" will help that.
If I had a DC, I'd choose less hills & more big acreage as new customers to keep a DC busy. All depends on your route.

Cos: There is a DC dealer in Concordville (Chadds Ford) - Kellam's. At least he has the sign that he sells them, but when I was there on Saturday to buy a chainsaw and BP Blower all he had was Gravely's. Meant to ask him about the DC's, but forgot with my new toys in hand. :)
I have seen a couple of dixies in the area on trailers, but had never seen one out and running until today and you guy's are right, those things can really fly. I could not believe how fast this thing was moving. Does it still leave a clean cut at that speed? If so then I do understand the hype. Unreal.

You need to keep the blades sharp for a clean cut at high speeds. That is why I keep extra blades with me at all times. If I see it's getting bad, I change them on the job.
You should have gone and checked the cut today.

The Dixis will cut clean if the grass is healthy and strong, any thin spots or weedy areas dont cut quite as well, but considering how fast you can go,it cuts excellent.I get a tire track in my cut from the left front castor wheel in certain grass too,but with sharp blades-they do cut excellent at speed. The seat on my Dixie Chopper says it all.My pictures were taken after I had cut the whole lawn wide open, thats why my stripes are a little wiggly in spots.
