I'm trying to piece together a 48" lesco belt drive. The mower has about 40 hours on it, except the engine was put on another mower. What size engine should I look for? 14, 15, 17? What is sufficient?

I have a new 12.5 on a old 44" toro WB and it had no problem
cutting bluegrass this rainy season.

If you can't afford a "good" engine like a Kohler 16hp Magnum ($1000) these Tecumsehs are a good choice if you are on a budget.

I'd like a kawasaki 15hp v-twin but I can't find it anywhere but OEM. And it runs like $1000 through the lesco dealership. Any thoughts finding that else where?

i have a Lesco 48 hydro that has a 17 kaw and it is lacking power for my application. if u put a 17 kaw on a belt drive i would image that it would have all the power supply u need....i would stay away from the 14 and the 15.

cullen--good luck on the pieced together lesco. I run an older lesco 48 belt with a 14 KAW and it has been a solid performer.

don't forget, that machine can be had for 2200 bucks with a two year commercial use warranty, so don't go putting any $1000 engines on it!

Go on Ebay. Do a search of the word "mower". They have engines there.

It's the best search engine that I've ever used.

Another tip. When doing a search, put the word that you are searching for in quotes. For example: If I was looking for a site that sells kawasaki engines and put it in like this: kawasaki engines. The search engine will find every site that has the word kawasaki, and every site that has the word engines. Way too much to sift through. If you put it in like this: "kawasaki engines". It will only find sites with that exact phrase. A lot less to sift through.

This may be old news to some, but you'd be suprised how many people don't know about it.

twj, I think the original poster has long ago disposed of the entire mower and no longer needs an engine. This thread is 7 years old.
