clippings buildup on deck

I have Toro walk-behind, mulch/bagger mower and if my grass is the least bit lush, the clippings will stick to the deck. Is there some kind of coating I can apply to the deck to prevent this from happening? Most of the paint has long since worn off and I'm wondering if a new coat of paint will help and if so what kind and would a coat of car wax help.

I assume anyone reading this knows I'm talking about the underside of the deck, housing the blade and not the topside next to the engine.

do you ever clean the bottom of your deck? Do you mow whem it is wet outside?

I clean it with water and a putty knife until the grass is gone. I've never used any cleaner. The clippings will stick when the grass is "dry" but when the grass is real lush, the moisture within the clippings is enough to get it to cling to the deck. I'll try the diesel. Anything else like diesel? Brake fluid? Kerosine?

just get a can of cooking oil (spray kind) and coat the underside of your deck real good. if youw mowing in wet grass you will probably have to clean the deck after you cut then reapply the cooking oil.

I don't mind it dirty. It just gets so built up underneath it inhibits the blade and will eventually cause the engine to stall.

Thanks for all the advice about the cooking oil spray and the diesel ideas. I'll give the oil spray a try this week.

Try sharpening the blade, and if you dont know how to sharpen it, take it to a local lawnmower shop or buy a new one. That should solve your problem
