I am pretty much in just lawn maintenance. Once in a while I will plant bushes and such for people. I planted 8 arborvite (5'-6') for a customer. I bought each for $60 including tax ($480). Retail was $86 with tax. I picked them up and installed in about 3 hours. Digging was all loam. I was thinking about $875. Am I in the ballpark. Thanks for the help.

@ that rate its $131.66/hr. sounds good to me :)

Do they know the price of where you picked them up? I usually mark up prices 15% at places i buy and truck to the job. You might want to do that to offset your labor rates, they'll do some math and may decide to find some one else for the next project unless they're loyal to you and your work.

I guess that is a little high. I was looking at it as if they had paid $85 each with tax, $75 for nursery to deliver and me planting them for $15 a piece. Yes they do know that the retail is $80.

I would get $1080.00 -1200.00 depending on the customer. The plants are guaranteed for one year from planting date and should and die, they are replaced one time only at no cost to the customer.

$960.00 is what I would have charged. Double the price for each plant. $480.00 profit - $160.00 an hour.

you charged a fair price for the work. For larger shrubs and trees I normall mark up 50% on wholesale and then 'eyeball' labor hours...you lucked out on the soil type...but they don't need to know, unless they are watching over your shoulder while you dig. God knows there are clients out there like that!

672 for plants + 4 hours labor (pick up, delivery time, etc)...$920
