What's the rule on using pictures from Lawnsite? I'd like to use some for a website, but I don't want to be taking other people's stuff. I'll have you all take a look when I get it done, and give me a critique.

I would say if you are going to be using other people's pictures then u should just send them a email and then if they want you to then they can just send you written permission. That's all i would care about. Just ask if they say no then ask someone else. :)

Ask. I have a few from others, mainly showing how we blow dirt or who the aeravator works, all with permision
Good for you for asking first about this. There's another thread right now about another LSer that has posted a picture(s?) of Eric's (ELM) on their web site. That is truly despicable as noted in the thread. I can't believe how many different people have done this now.

Last week I downloaded a few pictures and I didn't keep track of where I got them, so I'm going to try and find where I get them but if you see your picture on my site and want me to take it down, then just let me know I will gladly do it. I did not claim any of them as being mine, I just wanted to spruce up my website with some good pictures.
I'd appreciate it if you guys would take a look at my site and tell me what you think.

Looks great EXCEPT for the owner making a monkey face in the picture. Other then that all looks good.
The ONLY reason i don't like the monkey pic because it looks UNPROFESSIONAL IMHO.
Thanks,
Chris

Let it Grow,
send and email to SeanLawnsite@aol.com, tell him what pictures you want to post if the pictures belong to Lawnsite.com, if the pictures belong to another member email that member and request permission.
Also, if you are given permission, give credit to who owns the pictures, don't claim others work as your own.

Ha, Ha...like I said, I don't claim these pictures as mine, I simply wanted some pictures to spruce up my site a little!!! I'll replace them with my own as soon as I get some, but they will have to do for now.

Check your spelling!!!!

While the layout of the site is good, the content needs work. As stated above the owners photo must go, check spelling, and if you are the "best lawn care company in the world" you should have plenty of photos of your own work and shouldn't need others work.

First can you tell me where you got the template for it? I like it ( the template that is).
As for the content:
The photos of mowed lawns are obvioulsy not yours and having them on your site misrepresents your work. Using them in a commercial manner without permission DEFINITELY violates Internet copyright laws. Using them with permission violates good biz ethics esp for lawn care.... "Hey your site showed nice stripes and you give me ___."
If you need stock photos, go to a site like clipart.com to buy a months access for like $10 and download all the lawn pics they have.
The contract is Word should be converted to a pdf format so it can not be altered esp if you are allowing customers to pring their own.

It needs lots of work boys, and in the mean time can you please send the info on the template????

i know you're looking for content for your site, but like others said, whats the point of showing large residential lots that have been mowed with a 50+" mower when all you have is a 21/22" honda? Thats sort of like False Advertising. Buy a cheap digital camera and take some pictures of the lots you actually do.
The design is A+ though, just use your own images (with consent of the owners)

1. Making a face for the would be customers that you don't know yet is not a very intelligent thing to do, college prank yes, business smart NO.
2. Prices are really too low, unless you're doing postage stamp yards. One of you is suppose to have 'bidness' education right. If you're going to take the money and run, fine. If you have plans of staying is business and upgrading or even replacing equipment when it breaks, you're going to have to make financial plans to that end. Unless of course Mom & Dad are footing your expenses. That's not meant as a put down, just a reality check.
3. Second not smart at all thing to do, pull those pictures off your web site right now. Then take a little time to think about what is being said in these reply posts.
No, you're not saying they are your pictures, but it is very definitely being implied. It isn't that hard to find yard/lawn pics on the web, or even better, surely someone in your group has a digital camera. Take some real pics of YOUR work.
A little work and maturity will go a long way.
I agree with the others. The overall site looks good (I don't have one). Try to get some photos of your own work. I'm sure with all of our advise, you'll have a better looking web site in no time!

I agree with all the others, and I would suggest to get rid of the whole "people" thing or whatever it is. The pics especially. As far as the "resume" thing goes,... well, all you're telling potential customers is that you are into autos, (completely irrelevant to their needs) and that you're losing your manager in two years. What is THAT!? Don't seel yourself on things that can affect you in adverse ways in the future. Losing a manager = instability. It's great that that is what he's doing,... going to teach, but this is one of those things that go better unsaid.

Thanks for all the tips. I found some other stock photos I can use until I get some of my own so I took the others down. I'll be updating the site soon. This is my first website, so it helps to get your opinions. Enjoy the mowing!

Hi Fellas. The site is a nice looking site. Some typographical errors and I have to agree with everyone else on the portraits - get some new ones (like you guys working or something) and get rid of the others (at least the funny face).
If you're short on pictures of your own work and want really good looking yards in the pics, think about this one. Pick a nice yard in town that's a couple of days from needing to be mowed and ask the owner(s) if you could mow their place for free in return for you guys taking some photos of each other working and your finished product. Make sure you don't step on another LCO's toes doing this, but some folks who mow their own place won't mind getting a break this time around. You could just generate a new client out of it if you do a good job, too.
Really, really nice template, though. It does load a little slow... so maybe the pics and the template files could be compressed a bit more. (I also own a Web design company, so I get picky).
Best wishes from across the mountains in the beautiful Puget Sound area!

Ditto everything Runner said. Get rid of the "People" section entirely. I can't believe you want to be taken as a professional with that rediculous picture.

Thanks again for the tips! Some have asked about the template. I signed up for quickbooks webservice, and it is a template from them.
I know my prices are probably low compared to many of you, but that is where they have to be in oreder for me to get any business. I have pretty low overhead, and I can make a good amount of money with my prices set where they are.
I realize that many of you might not agree that Hondas are the best equipment out there, but here in Walla Walla that is (in my opinion) the best equipment I can buy. We pretty much have a Honda dealership, and a Toro dealship, and that's about it!
Thanks again for all the advice. I'll be working on my site later this week.
