View Full Version : Hustler Fastrak or USED Scag Tiger Cub

I was really interested in Fastrak 18/52. A local SCAG dealer that also sells Hustler says fastrak no good for my 2 acres, need a SCAG. Says Fastrak has integrated drive something or other and would need to be rebuilt in around 700 hours. The used Scag tiger cub with 1000 hours is in great shape, but is around the same price as best quote on fastrak, therefore no real savings upfront. I need to know if fastrak is really going to be the last mower I will ever buy. I take very good care of my equipment. Will the Scag cut any better than Fastrak ??
Thanks for any info you might have.

1000 hours on the cub is a ton of hours no matter how clean the machine is. You are sure to have maintenance issues come up with it and the Hustler would be brand spanking new with a two year warranty. Prices at my local dealer were running around $4500-4600 for the Honda 18/52. If you want to step up to a full commercial, the Mini Z 23hp Kaw with 52" deck is running right at $6200.
I am in the same boat right now trying to decided. Looked hard at the FasTrak and the Exmark CT, but have decided to step up to the Mini Z.
Didn't like the single pump / belt design on the FasTrak and the smaller tires for my property(hilly) (Probably would have been plenty good enough for what I "need" but not what I "want" ) The Exmark CT had really jerky in steering and quality of cut wasn't that good.
Good luck with your decision, but Hustler has my vote. Link to my review of both models is below.
