I recently removed 16 boxwoods from around a house, dug them with a shovle, using no help. I removed the clay soil from the hole, planted 7 gal. viburnams and filled in with topsoil. It is time to make out the bill and I would like your thoughts on the price.
DIG OUT BOXWOODS (6 hrs. 36 min. @ $ 35.00/hr. = $ 231.00
PLANT VIBURNAMS (5 hr. 15 min.) @ $ 35.00/ hr. = $ 183.75
ONE CU. YD. TOPSOIL ($ 20.00 my cost) .....................$ 25.00
CHARGE TO HAUL OFF BOXWOODS..............................$ 25.00
16, 7 gal. viburnams ($ 300.00 my cost)......................$ 600.00

TOTAL COST TO ME $ 320.00 Total Charge $ 1064.75

They recently hired me to do all the mowing, shrub trimming etc., and
yes, they gave me the go ahead to do this project without ever asking what I charge. They are well healed, but I want to be fair.

Sounds good. Just a word of advice, always give an estimate....even if the customer is your Aunt. This will save alot of headaches, as some people dont realize the cost of plants, etc. I can see it now, "$600.00 for these plants!!!".

Looks good to me, but I too would say its better to give an estimate up front.

the topsoiul and haul charge looks kinda low. It depends on your situation. Are you paying to get rid of the old plants? If so make sure the 25 covers the dump fee and the labor, gas, etc of getting rid of them. Also the 25 for topsoil - do you have to make an extra trip to get it, if so then you have gas and labor in doing so.
