I AM LOOKING AT BUYING A 18 OR 20HP WALKER WITH A GRASS HANDLE SYSTEM. I WILL NEED A 36" DECK TO SERVICE RESIDENTIAL CUSTOMERS. DOES ANYONE KNOW HOW MANY HOURS I SHOULD EXPECT FROM THIS EQUIPMENT. WILL THE PRICE OF 7500.00 BE WORTH PUTTING OUT? ALSO ARE THERE ANY REFERENCE WEBSITES WHERE I CAN FIND PRICES ON USED WALKERS?:blob2:

not for a used one or a 36" one it's not. i just sold a '98 20hp, 42" GHS for $3500, appraised for $3800. just a shade over 1000 hours on it.

Walkers are money pits. Not only are parts & maint. expensive but the cost of bagging vs. mulching for the entire life of a GHS deck is enormous.

Huh? I assume you haven't actually owned a Walker but rather you are generating an opinion based on what you have read or heard.

Good maintenance prevents buying parts. My Walker was a great investment, I bought it used with ~800 hours on it and I have only had to replace an idler pulley and the gas strut on the box. Wouldn't trade it for anything... I'd like to add another ZTR for mulching but I wouldn't want to be without the 48" GHS Walker.

mine was a money pit as well, and i keep my stuff serviced regularly. some things you just can't service like the GHS shoot leading from the deck to the blower, the blower itself and the grass pak nozzle. that in addition to all the belts and 30 some odd grease fittings. walkers are good machines, just high service ones.

is that 7400 for a new one? i know the 42"s here are listing retail for 8600.

No, my mistake, the 16HP (brand new) is around $7400. 20HP 42" around $8500, 26HP EFI w'48" just over 10K.

ok...here's me thoughts. at work we use 20hp engines which do fine. But why do you want a 36" deck when the mowers are like 41.5" wide? Get a 42" deck and anywhere you can fit with the 36...you can fit with the 42" and you get done 17% quicker then before. That means you can get 17% more grass cut in one day meaning you can get a lot more money.

Just my .02 though.

I have had a 16hp, 42" deck and now have a 26efi with a 42" deck and you will have to do a lot of trimming with a 36" deck as mentioned previously the mower is about 42" wide at tires.

I also have a 42" mulching deck that I use May through Sept-Oct and use the GHS the others. This is the first year I have used the mulching deck but it has been a great time saver and customers are very happy.

Just my thoughts. LOL:cool:
