I would like to know if they make tool that can measure feet. This way I could get a really good idea on the amount of grass I am mowing; therefore, I could give a really acurate estimate. I think some of my customers are just guessing on the acreage, and I get the short end of the stick. Do you guys know where I could get one of these? I think they look like a stick w/ a wheel.
Thanks
Rick

If you get one, just make sure you get one with a wheel that's about a foot or so across. The ones with the really small wheels (a couple of inches) are only made for pavement and short distances. Also, try to find one that has the curve up by the handle - much easier to hold on to. You get much more accurate readings when the stick is held vertically straight to your side. Oh, and by the way, there are 43,560 sq. ft. in an acre. Good luck!

Measuring wheels w/ 8-12 inch wheel run about $50.00. Also, I have a excel worksheet that quickly converts dimensions into sq footage and acreage. Anyone want a copy?
This dimention might help, 208' x 208' is roughly an acre.

Is this the same thing as X measured sq. footage/ 43,560? In other words, dividing 43,560 INTO your measured sq. ft..
Has anyone tried one of the lazer range finders yet, some go to 1000 yds + or - 1 yd

The only thing with a lazer range finder is that it must have someting to bounce off of...therefore open fields or parallel to house would be out.

I've had a Bushnell 400 yard range finder for about 4 years and there are quite a few new models now available. The Cabela's fall catalog lists the one I paid $250 for now at $190. I've used mine for hunting extensively and have checked and double checked it against known measured distances and it is accurate to + or - one yard. You do need something to measure to, but when I did my property I used trees, fence posts, a pop can I put on the ground, a vehicle and my kid.

Buy a good roll a tape, and i do mean buy a good one. It will be worth it, you will see! I charge $1.25 per 1000 square feet on "most jobs" I do recomend however never using a "per acre" price. Go off time and not size. Size and measuring is just a good place to start! good luck and good mowing!!!

I estimate my jobs by using the productivity of my mower on a given acreage, then I price myself out based on different equipment. More productive equipment means I can charge the same for area of cutting but do it in less time. I've got a excel sheet that does this too.
