View Full Version : chinch bug control

Just looking for some of your opinions on this. Chinch bugs just started hatching here and we are about to start applications. Is it effective to apply now with just the start of the hatch or give it a few more days till they are done hatching? We are using diazinon 500ec and set to apply at a rate of 6.6L/1000sq ft. Our mix will be 8.4 L in 600L. Do you feel this is too strong or too weak to make sure product is there if new hatchs should appear within a few days after application. Any opinions from those of you who have used this product would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

You should get excellent control as long as you have watered the Diazinon ion well. We've used Diazinon 500 and have had good success at most any stage but if you apply at the early instar stages you should actually see better control. Adult chinchbugs will travel considerably more where the nymphs won't wander to far from their hatch. Daizinon's half-life is like 23 days which should be good enough for control in this generation.

I have been using Talstar since they took Dursban off the market. Talstar has worked well controlling chinch bugs.

Thanks for your replies. Do you feel our application rate is too strong or too weak? We have done some lawns and see no living bugs but there are still some eggs not hatched on grass blades and we have had a tremendous down pour of rain since then so my concern is , is there still product there to control the late hatchs?
