View Full Version : Lawnboy revs up, then down, then up, then down, then...

I just bought my Lawnboy used. It's a 20" cut about 10 years old I would guess. It's having a hard time starting, and runs not too bad for the first ten seconds. But then after that, it starts to rev, like you wanna race the guy next to you. If I look under the top cover at the front of the engine, I can see a rod with a spring wrapped around it. At the end of the rod, is attached another rod that goes straight up. As it revs up, then down over and over again, this rod is moving up and down, in sync with the reving. I imagine this is attached somehow between the governor and carbuerator? Any ideas what could be wrong and how to fix it? Thanks in advance!!! :(

you need to go through the carb. and give it a good cleaning

It ya that rod is the govenor control rod, and if i`m right there should be a srew on the bottom of the sediment bowel you can adjust while it is running to try to fix the revs, there also should be another screw on the carb to adjust that, its been awhile since i`ve been around a 2 stroke LB. I`m not shure about this , till i know if it is a 2 stoke or a four stroke?

Where in ontario are you , I`m in Clinton, an hour north of London.

Have a good one

Thanks for info.... It's a two stroke. I'm having a bit of trouble getting the darn thing even started now. Any tips on getting it started? I'm very mechanically inclined and not shy.

like i said go through the carb and clean it.
i dont think that model has a screw on the bottom of the carb.
take the carb off and use some carb. cleaner and shoot it through all the holes and clean it out.

mine did the same thing.. i took it to the stop and it ended up being the governer.. it was brand new.. i think it's starting to do it again though.
