Does it run oil or grease?

The Chiltons manual says grease. That differential oil can enter the bearing cavity, but the primary lube is grease.

The man at the parts store says oil only. Plus there was no sign of grease on the bearing. Could it have washed it's self that clean with oil? It has 150,000 miles.

It's an '89 Dodge Cummins dualie. The truck's a 3/4 ton. But it's been retrofit with a 1 ton axel. And the Chiltons doesn't specifically talk about that axel.
It's possible too that any instruction from '89 could have been updated.

Which should I use? And if I use grease should I be concerned with it being compatible with the differential oil?

The bearings are lubricated with the diff. oil. Ck to make sure you don't have a seal leaking.

I'm replacing the seals too along with the brakes.
