Help w/ controlling brush/woody plants

Need recommendation on herbicide to control brush and woody plants. If I can help it I don't want to use imazapyr due to its tendence to "bleed" into the roots of desirable trees and not readily degrade in the soil.

lesco carries pathfinder II not sure of the active ingredient.

also, garlon is another woody/brush killer.

just have to be careful when applying, to avoid unwanted kill.
