Quick one. With the hot weather here now what do you guys go with pants or shorts? I had been using shorts but my legs get all chewed up from the trimmer. Just too hot for pants though. Anybody have any light weight pants?

Shorts. - Cargo type. Part of uniform. Whenever I trim, I wear chaps. No green, knicked up legs, no grass in boots, no green socks. www.wechapps.com ;)

I carry an old pair of bib overalls - shorts while I'm mowing, slip on the bibs to trim take I'm off when I'm done. Have seen guys wearing old catcher shin guards also.

Exactly what I do, shorts and w/ chaps for trimming. I have a used uniform place in my area that I can pick up used ----ies,etc for next to nothing but I prefer cotton; I got a buddy that's an E8 at Ft.Campbell Ky that gives me his old BDU's that I cut off or have sewn into shorts.

The trimming doesn't bother me with shorts unless it is real heavy trimming... I wore shorts twice this year while mowing and got stung by bees both times. 4 stings all together. I won't be wearing shorts anymore while working. I'm gonna look for some light weight, light colored pants, maybe painter's pants if they come in a light tan color or light gray.
Chaps look too stupid to make it a viable solution to enable wearing shorts.

Shorts, no chaps, the wife washes the green socks and fixes my boo-boos. Come on guys , butch up!
I try to wear pants as much as I can get away with. I hate that green stringy grass hanging from my hairy legs. :( If they have a pant that is doorable and the wind would flow thru, then I am a buyer.
I don't think I can go out in public looking like this.....

Pants?? NO chance! Not in Louisiana, not me. Shorts, all the time. Blood, all the time....but I'm used to it, I only feel the wounds when I shower. Now, winter is a different story....

I wear shorts and a Chapron from Stihl. It looks fine and is great along roadsides since people can see the bright orange. The Chapron is very quick to put on and take off, and my legs stay nice and clean.

I wear shorts unless I'm meeting with a potential customer, then I try to have on pants and my shirt tucked in. I can handle the knicks and scratches on my legs. They go great with my tan lines, signifies me as a lawncare professional.

Shorts. Only pants if I'm doing a really overgrown area that I'm not used to.
My legs have knicks all over them, but that comes with the business. I don't have all the hair on my legs to protect me like you guys do!:)
Pants only! don't even own a pair of shorts. Used to work with a guy that retired from the Navy he told me that he was taught in the Navy that actually the more clothes you have on the cooler you stay it keeps the sweat from evaporating, and the sun off your skin directly. They may have changed there theory on that but it works for me. There is a solo operator where I live that wears white painters pants and white long sleeve shirt, and a long white towel under his hat at all times when he's mowing.

Pants for me. Use to wear shorts but my legs were taking a beaten. Always had to wear pants when I worked in the electrical field so I was pretty use to it.

Shorts on as soon as it warms up enough.
Of course, I don't do any of the trimming. I couldn't stand getting knicked.
Pants always. Because if you saw my 53 year old boney legs you would put them pants back on.

Long Pant, Long sleeve shirt, combat boots and a good straw hat, lots and lots of water. The theory of wearing more cloths will keep you cool, why do you think all Arabs wear all that cloths in the Desert. The secret to staying cool is to stay hydrated. :dizzy: :blob2:

I wear khaki cargo shorts and a 100% cotton t-shirt with my logo on it, the shirt is always tucked in. I wear shorts up until the weather turns real cold, which is only about 2 months here if we are lucky.

Shorts in hot weather. Pants when its cooler.
I have the scars to prove it. When in the hot tub, I noticed that the literally thousands of tiny scars show up for some reason. But they're invisable otherwise. From time to time I get a painful shot, but nothing too bad. You learn little tricks to avoid the worst of it over time.

If I know Im going to do some hard core brushcutting I'll wear light weight long pants. Other than that, always shorts. Get hit every now and then by bigger stones or sticks but generally go ok. I did get hit by a stick the other week. Man! Almost dropped me. left a welt 12" long on my leg, very close to my, um, dangley bits. Was the most painful hit Ive ever had!
I know what you mean about the scars though Bruce32! Oh well, Ive already got the misses and kid etc. Dont have to look pretty anymore. Like you lot that Ive seen on here!:D

Shorts if it's hot (80+) and I'm mowing. Pants if I'm dealing with brush, poison ivy, heavy weed wacking or it's cooler. I do have an old pair of hiking gaiters I'll put on once in a while for weed wacking.

Yes you stay cooler wearing pants, just make sure they are white - you want to reflect the heat, not obsorb it.

its 9:47am.the humidity here at this second is 96%.air temp is 91degrees. come down to mississippi and wear long pants in july and august.in 15 mins youll look like ya jumped in a swimming pool.
i carry extra shorts and golf shirts in my truck and change if the next client is in a really nice subdivision or a exclusive country club or condo complex.
if its a median strip or an area that doesn't get a lot of public exposure i mow naked!:D

hey T.E.
its the evaporation of sweat from the skin that actually cools ya.
ya dont want to lock in the perspiration.
thats why in the south they say"its not the heat, its the humidity"
the high humidity level means the air is saturated with moisture and the sweat on your body dosnt evaporate as quickly.thus you dont cool as quickly.
i went to las vegas once and noticed how quickly the sweat evaporates.to me that is even more dangerous because ya can dehydrate before ya realize it.
keep cool sir and good luck too ya

My grandfather used to wear long johns in the summer. He said the sweat used to cool him off, especially when a breeze blew thru.

The uniform of the day is short sleeve shirt, work pants and boots. The pants are 100% cotton. No this is not as cool as shorts but I don't get poison ivy or cuts from the trimmer this way on my legs.

I wear Khaki's in pants and shorts depending on the job.
I also have a pair of Cargo Hiking pants with the zip off legs so they become shorts in an instant. They are light weight, thin, tough, and they breath. They are made out of some kind of breathable nylon or somethingDon't protect you much from flying rocks or twigs, but no problem with the clippings, ivy, and dirt. Look great. Not like you are wearing warm up pants or something.
We have B*ss Pro and they sell them. they are also availbable mail order or online at any of the outdoor shops.

:) Long pants in March, and April, then the shorts come out, all uniform with logo, In this weather right now i take a full change of clothing with me and baby powder, can't go without it my cloths get soaking wet everything, so i go to a gas station and wash off with towel and powder down and redress, wet between the legs rubbing makes for a painful day........Marks Mowing Service

I have tried the theory of staying cool by wearing light colored long-sleeve shirts and pants to keep the direct sunlight off... IT DOES NOT WORK FOR ME!!
White t-shirt and shorts are the only way to go.
I find if you learn how to handle and use your line trimmer to keep the grass from being directed toward you, its your best chance at keeping your legs from looking like a Chia-Pet. :D
Other than that, I just deal with it.
Does anyone know of a good product that works as a shield that can be attached to a line trimmer. ;)

Dont wear 100% cotton shirts in the summer becasue they hold heat in too well.
