What's this worth?

The boss of a friend of mine wants to sell the truck he uses everyday for work (puts up cell towers/mostly highway miles). It's a 2001, Chevy 3500 with the 350 Vortec engine. Motor's got 56k on it. Truck is a dually, crew cab, automatic, has a Class III hitch and is completely wired. There is a small dent in the tailgate (big deal). Have all record of maintenance btw.

Guy wants 9 grand for it. Should I run to the bank or just run away?

Rodfather:

Without doing any research, it sounds like a good deal. Whenever I look at a used vehicle, I make sure that I take it to a mechanic that I know (independent) and let him give it the $50 once over. If it mechanically has his blessing then I seriously consider buying it.

Are you certain this truck is a 2001?? If this truck is a Chevy 3500 with a 350, it has to be at least a 2000 or older. Beginning in 2001 with the new HD body style (2500 HD and 3500 dooley), they dropped the 350 as the standard engine and replaced it with the 6.0 V8. If you want to upgrade, you opt for the 8.1 or the Duramax. I am guessing that this truck you are looking at is probably a 2000 model, and someone must have gotten the model years mixed up.

It is a 2000...he thought it was a 2001. Think I'm gonna take it for a test drive this weekend. I need to replace a '95 Ford. Thanks so far for the responses...

You start pulling trailers around with that motor in that size of truck, you'll soon be dissapointed with it's power.

Also, people don't give trucks away for way less than what blue-book is or may be. If it's way less than what it should be, something isn't right.
