View Full Version : The Swampbeast Saga

I know thats a stupid title, but it just popped into my head.
It all started when I was 12, I started mowing my yard. My nieghbor came over and wanted me to do his yard. I charged him $25 per cut, and still do to this day, nearly 11 years later. I went about doing this for the next 3 years, just a YardMachines 22 inch pushmower, a Homelite bent shaft trimmer, and a pushbroom. Charging people $25 per cut in my nieghborhood.
I then turned 15, and I made a friend with a guy that was 16, and had a ratty, junky, Nissan pickup truck with over 300,000 miles on it, it was on its second engine. We used that to haul two 21 inch mowers, two trimmers, an edger, and two handheld blowers around for about a year.
By that time, I had saved up enough dough to buy my first vehicle, I bought it from my Dad, a 1995 Ford F-350 four door with a 7.3 liter Powerstroke engine. I still have that truck. But once I had that, we also went and bought a trailer, and my original commercial mower! A 48 inch Belt drive WB. Boy, I thougth I was really cookin'! I still cant help but laugh at how silly I was...:D
So he and I mowed, and mowed, and got more people, and more clients, until we had to get a Tiger Cub ZTR. By this time we also had upgraded to top of the line trimmers, edgers, and a our first PB-650 Blower.
He lost interest shortly after that, mowing wasnt a "cool" job. (but apparently making about a quarter as much at Blockbuster was cool, whatever) so I bought the company from him. I worked at it myself for a while, I think I had about 50 lawns a week. Then, I hired two guys to work for me, and I expanded the company from there.
Before long, I had over 100 accounts, and needed to buy another truck. I did so, hired another crew, got more equipment, bought a storage building, and worked my butt off until we had about 200 accounts.
Just recently, I bought out another LCO company, crews, trucks, equipment, accounts, everything, that added about another 200 accounts to my company. We have about 400 now.
I now own,
One huge hangar that I put every thing in.
Somewhere around 40 mowers (ranging from the 21's to the Saber Tooth Tigers with 72 inches of cutting power)
I have no idea how many edgers, trimmers, blowers, hedgeclippers, etc I own.
53 employees. (including the workers, my mechanic, my secretary, etc etc)
The usual array of airators, pumps, chainsaws, augers, etc.
Lots of people look at me in disbelief when I tell them what I do, and how well I have done. To those people, I simply explain to them that this is what happens when you work your butt off, dont cheat anybody, do good work, and possess an inkling of common sense.
Really, I think the main reason I have done so well, is all my administration paper work is taken care of by my secretary, Abby. She is the smartest girl I have ever seen, she can do everything! If she was only good looking, heck, I would settle for decent looking, I would probably marry her!

wow, very inspiring, makes me want to right out and cut grass. you did alright kid
08-04-2003, 04:43 PM
Writing all that made me curious, so I went back and checked, I have 437 accounts, ranging in size from a $15 postage stamp yard to a massive $1200 yard that we do twice a month(its 35 acres, and has a ton of trimming and bush hedging, VERY rich people). And its 52 mowers, ranging in size from a crazy little 20 inch Push mower to the biggest baddest ZTR around! A SCAG 72 inch Saber Tooth Tiger with the diesel engine!
08-04-2003, 07:55 PM
Cool story Swampbeast, good job. And I'm glad to see you finally saw the light and got a Dodge/Cummins too! Now you're stylin'. I assume that's the 6 speed, or did you get the auto/HO?
08-04-2003, 11:13 PM
Six speed manuel all the way baby! That thing rocks! I had to buy a new diesel, and since Dodge is definately the leader right now, I went with it. I do like Fords, but I can see when they have shortcomings, or should I say shortCummins? Sorry, that was corny...
I have to admit though, those Dodges with the body-color front grill and bumper, especially in black, just look downright wicked.
08-04-2003, 11:57 PM
It would be real nice to see some pictures of your set up, must be real sweet taking a picture with 52 mowers.
Would you please post it for the delight and envy of all of us?
08-05-2003, 12:18 AM
Oooh, post pictures? I tried that about a year ago, it didnt work, I tried it again about six times, it never worked. Me and computers dont get along to well.
Maybe if my local newspaper had a website, but I dont think they do. Some stupid reporter did an article on me and my company, a "tribute to the work ethic" or something like that. I think its at www.bayshoresun.com or something close to that. Not sure.
I will see if any of my employees are hip on computers, maybe one of them can put a pic on here.
Oh wait, I need a digital camera dont I? I dont have one. I will see if any of my employees have one though, we shall see.
08-05-2003, 12:30 AM
Ok, I will be looking forward for it.
That website is under construction coming soon
08-05-2003, 06:53 AM
You can take the photos with a regular disposable camera, and have Walmart develop them to a disc. Which you can then upload.
08-05-2003, 03:57 PM
Good point Randy, but I think this guy is just faking the whole thing' that's just my opinion, prove me wrong.
08-05-2003, 10:16 PM
Yeah, thats it Aztlan, I just made all that up. Oh, and heres the best part, I some how remember all this stuff I totally made up every time I talk about it. Wierd, I just must have a really good memory.
I kinda thought that might be the problem when I got your second post. He he, jealous people think some funny things.
I shall try to placate your doubting, but I doubt I will be able to. I checked with three different crews today, (the ones that dont exist) and none of them own digital cameras, or know how to post pics on forums. So I will just have to continue asking my imaginary employees until I find someone that does.
I must admit though, a MAJOR part of all this came from one fact, that my Dad handled all the loans I had to make to get the trucks and the building and stuff like that. He just gave me the money, and I paid him back, with no interest. He is the Vice-President of Samsung Heavy Industries, so he can afford that, but no, thats probably just my crazy imagination going wild again! ;)

if this is all true good for u only being 21
i was a mess when i was 21.
how do u bill all those customers and do the daily tracking.
what are u grossing a year?
09-29-2003, 10:42 PM
Holy Cow, bro! It's got to take a mastermind to build such a large and profitable LCO! And you're only 21! Dang, I wish I had the drive to build something like that....By the way what's the name of your company? Gosh, a secretay and a full time mechanic- I get both those jobs plus owner, operator, and everything else....You should go get a degree in like Landscape Architecture so you could start doing waterfall intallation and all those other really cool things......But you made one bad mistake, I don't really have anything against Dodge trucks, but I am a Duramax man all the way. Ford on the other hand, SUCKS BALLS! My 2001 Duramnax/Allison will crush any Ford out there! Hope you don't get too personal about trucks, or this could get real nasty- might have to move to the appropriate forum.
Cheers to your continued success!

Um, Aztalan, I know this guy, Swampbeast. He hired my brother, he is also the one who pointed me to this site. He said it was a great site, had lots and lots of good guys that know a lot. He told me to come to this thread first, said I would find it interesting.
I wouldnt go calling him a liar. He is the owner of Mantis Lawns, the 9th largest LCO in the Houston area. Find out a bit more for ya start calling people out on the carpet, you know?
10-01-2003, 02:06 AM
Sherminator obviously doesn't know sh$t about trucks. I wouldn't give you a squirt of cold p$ss for a whole train-load of Chevy's.
Those things truley are pieces of crap.
10-01-2003, 01:05 PM
I wouldn't be so confident in my Chevy if I knew it was just a piece of crap. I have seen way too many old Chevys with 400,000+ miles on them and way too many Fords biting the dust at 150k. And I seen way to many Fords get their ----- kicked by a Duramax. Japanese engineering in the Isuzu engine is superior to anything the Fords have. Apparently you just haven't seen enough Chevys to see that they are THE superior truck.
10-01-2003, 02:30 PM
Boys, boys! Obviously neither of you have been around enough Dodge/Cummins to see realize that they are by far superior to any other light duty pickup diesel out there!:)
10-01-2003, 08:33 PM
Randy, I have nothing against Dodge/Cummins at all, it's just that I can't stand Ford. If I was forced to buy a Dodge, well, you couldn't really use the word "forced". I'd just buy it. Ford however, you can just give me a Toyota Tundra 'fore I'll waste my money on something I'll be Fixing Or Repairing Daily. Last time I checked, it was the 6.0 L Powerjoke that that was shafting Ford buyers left and right. I hear that Ford doesn't even know how to fix half the stuff that goes wrong with that engine. On the other hand, I hear very few complaints about the Duramax.
Anyhow, sorry to get Papa Wheelie all spooled up about this- I was just pointing out to the mighty Swampbeast that he should've gone with a Chevy.
Later, y'all
10-02-2003, 07:32 PM
Ok. I usually dont respond to trads unless thay are direct it to me.
Ok. Mister Specterhunter
You claim you are a friend of swampbeast here's a quote from you
"I know this guy, Swampbeast. He hired my brother, he is also the one who pointed me to this site".
Look in your profile where it says how you found about this site?
Don't respond with the clasic "Yea I know I didn't put much attention to that question"
this is another Quote from you
"I started out when this fellow, who goes by the name of Swampbeast in this forum, let me use one of his mowers to start a little company of my own when I was 11, or 12."
Ok. according to swampbeats he started in business 5 years ago, (his profile says 4 when he registred in 2002) and you started 7 years ago it says so in your profile.
So either you are lying or Swampbeast is lying.
By the way what happened to Swampbeats? he doesn't have more time to be in this forum anymore, or is it that you and him are more than just good friends.
Things like that is what keeps me complaining abou coming up with a way to identified people whose only purpose is lie or tell stories.
Please Sean look into this people more closely
10-02-2003, 10:06 PM
AztlanLC, I did not want to do this before but I am afraid I have to.
I am a truthful and honest person, like most of the people on this forum, Swampbeast not included. I will explain.
Swampbeast's real name is Austin Xxxxxx. My real name is Adam Xxxxxxxxx. He and I have been very good friends for several years. He has a strange addiction to telling people tall tales; I used to fall for them hook line and sinker when I first met him, but now he rarely fools me. Unfortunately most people do not know him as well as I, and believe all his stories. Here is the truth. You will notice that earlier in the thread I played along with his story just to make him think he had gained another admirer. But when specter hunter showed up, I had enough. Swampbeast is 18 years old, not 21 like he says. He works by himself maintaining somewhere between 16 - 20 small to medium lawns, not 437. He does actually have the '95 Ford, but he has not paid his dad a single ---- hair for it- all he has to do is pay for the fuel. Maint and insurance- dad's got it covered, son. His current rig consists of 1 Scag 48" belt drive WB and a 21" John Deere trim mower. He has one trailer, a 6.5' X 14' dual axle that he bought second hand a year ago. He has 2 trimmers, one edger, one blower, and one gas hedge clipper; all of them are Echo. He keeps all of this in a 12' X 24' storage building, and, you guessed it, his parents pay for at least half of the monthly rent.
He did indeed start mowing his neighbor's lawn many years ago for $25 and he still does. In May 2002 he and I decided to begin mowing together. By the end of the summer, we had about 25 accounts and had recently bought the Scag I mentioned above and shortly after came the trailer. About 7-8 weeks ago, he bought me out (or rather started to buy me out) because I was leaving for college, Texas Maritime Academy (not Blockbuster). Currently I am pursuing a degree in Marine Transportation and I plan to sail as a Third Mate in the U.S. Merchant Marine with hopes of upgrading to a Master license and being a Captain. He is currently mowing about 12 lawns a week in his spare time and taking some liberal arts classes at a local community college. He genuinely hates mowing, and only continues to do it because it pays alot more than he'd be making anywhere else. He's not really sure what he wants to do in the future.
He is registered as Swampbeast using his parents' email at home. Once he realized you didn't believe his tale, he used his own email account at the community college to create another account, in the name of Specter hunter, and then act as some outsider backing up his big lie. Apparently Swampbeast - and Specter hunter- forgot that their best friend and former mowing partner still visits Lawnsite.
I hope this clears things up a little for you, and everybody else. I was having a little bit of fun playing along with him, but once he started to talk smack and bring in new characters, I thought it would be in everybody's best interest to bring out the truth. He does not know I let all this be known, and I'm not sure I will tell him, maybe he'll check back in and discover that his bubble has been burst.
If you have any questions about all this, please lay them out and I will answer them. I'm not here on the weekends so if you reply then, just give me a day or two.
Hope everybody had a good year, and continued success to all of you. :D
10-07-2003, 03:04 AM
are you all sh1tting me? I am starting to realize why people are so doubtful of everyone here. Seems as though there are more liars than not. I hate to say that I am disappointed---boy, I am really naive---I really believed Swampbeast or whomever he/she/it is.:(
10-07-2003, 10:50 AM
...and now the saga of Swampbeast comes to a close. lol
10-08-2003, 07:48 AM
Wow..........cuz is gonna make one heck of a politician one day............keep tellin' those lies and you'll be rich and powerful.
Don't it bite when your best friend rats you out:cry: :nono:

if he lies to his dates as badly as he lied to us...I doubt it.
12-11-2003, 07:04 AM
I'm betting at least three of the Posters are the same person on this thread........... what a way to entertain yourself.
A Beautiful Mind...........
12-15-2003, 11:38 PM
This thread is hilarious.
I knew it was a fairy tale when I saw the poster didn't know how to post a picture online. Sorry..but if you can grow a lawn business to 400+ accounts, something is VERY wrong if you can't get a picture online.

Must be all tied up mowing his 6 yards with his Craftsman while day dreaming up more stories
01-16-2004, 02:26 PM
I think people in this country have no math skills or this guy would have been spotted with out having his so-called friends betray him. I was doubting him as I read his first post his age sounded wrong to have succeeded but I let that slide what sounded weird to me was account numbers employee numbers truck numbers trailer numbers and oh yes equipment numbers.
53 employees. (including the workers, my mechanic, my secretary, etc etc) ok that sounds reasonable sort of.
One huge hangar that I put every thing in. 10 trucks 14 trailers oh hereís the first clue the trailers out number the trucks??? They sometimes do in smaller companies you may have a dumping trailer and a landscaping trailer or a heavy equipment trailer but 10 to 14 ratio I read that like 3 times thinking I read it wrong.
I have 437 accounts, ranging in size from a $15 postage stamp yard to a massive $1200 yard that we do twice a month(its 35 acres, and has a ton of trimming and bush hedging, VERY rich people). And its 52 mowers, 52 mowers and 53 employees one per BS and 437 accounts per week at most youíd need 16 guys to cut that but he claims 53 it was obvious he had no clue what he was talking about before anyone every came out and said they knew him.
checked with three different crews today, (the ones that dont exist) and none of them own digital cameras, or know how to post pics on forums now this one made me smile the most was he saying he has only 3 crews what are they 17 men each hehehe or was he claiming to have 15 crews or more but after 3 telling him no he gave up.
I donít care if some one has 1 post or 4000 and has a millennium membership if they donít know what they are talking about they are gona be all to easy to spot iv seen enough guys with 20-30 posts that know more then guys with 800 so I am always skeptical but this guy was so fake from his first post I donít see how he was believed at all.
01-16-2004, 02:42 PM
I agree and that's the reason I started questioning, I also spot all of this since his first post, and the more he kept talking the more I realize it was a lie.
I also still think some more people were invloved in this or let's say he was replying with other screen names also.
For me it's aesy to apot a lier cause I was one in my young days, the thing is that many people in here couldn't see it and belive him, and many people came hero for advice and if we let this people around this forum will turn into a place full of s.
01-17-2004, 11:33 PM
I thought it was kind of funny that when everyone was questioning him that he went away for awhile. Then all of a sudden a couple of new users registered in sept. 03 came to his deffense.
