First frost Sept. 23(light).Temps in the high 30's on the 24th and 25th but heavy fog prevented frost. Killing frost predicted for this weekend in the high country of southwestern Va. Leaf season is here.

Forecast high temp for us in the Twin Cities-MN for Fri. is upper 30's. Gonna need my mittens.
We are forcasting a HI of 30 and a low of 20 on Friday~Alexandria, MN. Things are already slowing down, this should really shut down the grass growing. Its been a long summer, time for a break.
Same here in Indiana highs forcasted in the 40s for sat. Will slow down a little but grass will keep growing a while. Time to look at the leaf removel game.

I got a little sunburnt Sunday. I worked a 9 hour day and got some serious sun. I work full time but still it was warm enough this weekend and still just enough direct sun to get a little red. In Central Virginia we will not get frost till very late Oct. or early to mid Nov. It was 89 degr. here today and next week we could get a frost. Go figure.

10-09-2000, 12:27 PM
We had our first frost here in upstate SC this morning. Yuck and no rain in about 2 or 3 weeks
We had our first frost in Central NJ today.
Why do you wait to mow? Is there some reason you shouldn't mow frosted grass? What am I missing here? Thanks.
10-09-2000, 04:00 PM
BRL - Not a good idea to mow frosty grass as the grass tissues are frozen thus enhancing your chances of damaging the grass. I have mowed grass with frost with no affect, but you never know.
This morning ,in Delaware, we awoke to a light frost. Roof tops and windshields had it but not too much on the lawn.
10-09-2000, 05:33 PM
Not only is frosted grass damaged from being stiid,it also burns it wherever you applt pressure to it,whether your stepping on it or the mower wheels are running over it.I would not ever mow in the frost,no matter what, but i see guys doing it all the time.
10-09-2000, 06:14 PM

10-09-2000, 07:19 PM
Just checked, got a little frost in my freezer. Other than that, low sixties for the harshest part of winter.
10-09-2000, 08:37 PM
Was very nippy here today.
10-09-2000, 08:42 PM
Wed. and Thurs. of last week it was in the 90's here in Memphis. Fri. thru Sun. it has been in the 40's during the day and low 30's at night. What the @#$@ happened. This is the midsouth, not northern country. At least it should be climbing back into the 70's soon. There was a light frost on the ground this morning.
Scraper & John,
Thanks for the info!!

Last fri we had snow fluries and Whiteface Mt got 5-6 in of the white stuff. The wind was hammering my butternut tree and the nuts were hitting the roof like a bomber was overhead.Yesterday was 55 and today we had a high of 65 not too bad in northern NY.
10-13-2000, 10:04 AM
Daily temps have been in the 60's but nights have been getting heavy frost. Things are slowing down here.
Frost every morning for the past few days, HEAVY this morning, it was in the 20s-but with highs around 70. I think after next week, one more mowing will be about it for us this year-lookin' forward to a break. We live in Southwest Virginia near Wytheville (we live in a "holler"-a valley).
