A retailer sells a mower he said he would try and sell for you. He sells it. what is a common commission charge?

around here in TN it runs 5- 10 %

You're talking about a consignment arrangement aren't you.
You need to have a figure agreed to as to the minimum you will accept.
Likewise, the seller should expect a minimum for his efforts, that amount added to your minimum should be the lowest selling point.
Don't put your mower in there with a 'Get what you can' sell order, too many factors effect price that way.
