TITLE: Start You Own Lawn Care Business
AUTHOR: Figure-Sandlin, Eileen
ISBN: 1-891984-75-6

While browsing at the local library today, I came across a title those of you just starting out, as well as experienced LCO's might find helpful.

Good Stuff:
Good overview regarding what it takes to be a LCO.
Advice about estimating costs, and establishing pricing.
Marketing hints.
Company naming advice.
Start up expense worksheets and examples.

Bad Stuff:
Not enough info on equipment, mowers, etc.
Industry addresses and weblinks are out of date
Not much on insurance, permitting, and license information.

If you are just starting out in the biz, or are just interested in what it takes to be a LCO, you might consider this book. It has quite a bit of information about what it takes to set your business up (back office stuff), but not too much about your day-to-day pushing a mower stuff.

The cost is $14.95, not too much to spend for the information, or just try to find a copy at your local library... or a used copy.

Overall, I would give this book a 6 out of 10 stars.

I like How to OPen and OPerat a Home-Based Landscaping Business. by Owen Dell.

Good for basic information, templates and things to consider especially for the many new operators such as those posting on here.... It's always good to have a good reference book.

Before I got started, I bought 'Start your own lawn care service business'. it was okay, but still left out a lot. I bought the summer101.com manual, too. It was better, but if both were combined, it would make a great resource for beginners.
