Fertilizer application & drip irrrigation

How do you guys apply fertilizer to a landscaped area using drip irrigation. I generally apply a slow release granular inside of the mulch. But with drip tubing installed just under the mulch, the fertilizer won't get watered in properly. How do you guys handle this.
