When You think you've seen just about every thing you pull up to do an estimate and the guy that lives next door is mowing with a 19'' and wearing a bike helmet and knee pads
I had to leave and come back latter because I was rolling around the inside of my UTE and I just couldn't stop. I wish I had a camera with me. You probably had to be there. :D

He could have a disability. A couple companies like that up my way. They need the helmet in case of a seizure to avoid further brain damage.

Yeh, I don't know mate.
"I just noticed you out mowing and I was just wondering why you are wearing a helmet and knee pads" The whole time I would be trying not to start rolling around laughing. The guy would look funny even with out the "Evil Knievel look"
But one day I might do it arfter i've seen it a few more times and the novelty has worn off. I imagin arfter seeing this guy a few more times I'll just think its plan sad.

There are some pretty narrow minded people here. Some people can't think beyond their own problems. The guy probably has some type of disability that requires him to wear a helmet.
Even if he doesn't have a disability so what.

It is pretty bad that some people have such low self-esteem that they make non-joking fun of others for such trivial things.

It is sad since those low self-esteem people were probably being put down growing up by parent(s), kids at school, etc and they are putting others down now.

Dean,
I hear you man. Sometimes we don't realize how good we have it, as some people out there have serious handicaps, and they try their hardest to do things we take for granted.
It really hits home if you have kids, and just think if your own child had a disability, and you saw everyone making fun of them, and you feeling helpless, because you know there is nothing you can do to stop them, your kids just have to go through their entire lives dealing with "adults" treating them this way.
Just food for thought, I'm not here to judge.

Those helmets reflect the microwaves being beamed down from space for our TV and cell phones. There everywhere frying our brains. I think I might wear mine today.

Seriously, I hope the guys okay. He could have a mental illness, and that is no joke.

Dean - I was simply asking his mode of transportation. YOU were implying that he has a mental illness. It's in the eyes of the beholder............

Inquiring as to how someone gets from point A to point B in no way suggests a mental handicap

The guy that lives across the street from me does this sort of "jogging-dancing-hopping" thing when he edges his lawn - I think he thinks it's exercise or something. It's funny as hell!

Aaaawwww. Maybe I shouldn't say anything because he might be having leg seizures!

Have you ever noticed that no matter what you say on this forum there's always someone who can point the political incorrectness???

Pinnacle - you are right - mowing with a helmet is funny! If we find out later that he has a problem, I'll be part of a grand group apology, but until then HA HA HA HA HA HA HA!!!!

The Ya Ya Sisterhood is an Angry Bunch who lash out at anything that disrupts their delicate sensibilities.

Regardless, if he was mentally challenged he should not have been operating a mower in the first place.

There have been days when I wished I was wearing a helmet. You know, when the guy string trimming by you throws a piece of mulch that bounces off your head. OUCH. Plus, you KNOW he did it ON PURPOSE. Do you think they make air-conditioned helmets? I could have used one today. :)

That's why this is an open public forum all you guys and gals. Everyone writes their opinion/observations, you know, everybody's got one . . . .
So those that would normally not even think of someone with a physical handicap being humorous might type that mental picture out here.
So we don't need to put either side down, but so far, we're free to.

I wish I was wearing a helmet a few times.
Those darned low hanging branches got me good a couple times, knocked me right off the mower. Thank got for safety's.
Another time trimming around a house at a extremely fast pace the top of my head found the corner of an open garage window.
I woke up on the ground with no clue wha happened until I saw the open window and blood pouring down my face. The customer totally freaked out when they discovered me at their door with blood pouring down my face. Luckily the bleeding slowed down about 15 mins later & I didn't need to go to the hospital or need stitches, but that sure put a damper on my day...

I think it was my post that started the backlash against laughing at Mr Helmet. I did not intend to come across like some dirt munching tree hugging liberal. I apoligize. I just wanted to point out why some people wear helmets when they mow. There are two companies out my way that employ diabled individuals. Some wear helmets. They get preference on all the municipal, state, and federal contracts around here. I will admit I have watched one drive a tractor into a rather deep body of water at a Army Corps dam. Why he was allowed on a 52" Kubota tractor is beyond me. Just wanted to clarify.

What's a helmet and knee pads gonna do anyway?

If you really want to go all out, include safety glasses, ear protection, steel toe shoes/boots, steel cup (to protect the family jewels), face shield, and any body armor you can think off.

And what is it with every kid wearing a crash helmet every where they go these days? I mean everywhere! What happened to getting a knock or two in the head to make you learn from your mistakes? Biking, jogging, walking, sitting, singing, napping, swimming. Everywhere. I just don't get it.

Speaking of knee pads,
I stopped at a neighborhood garage sale this morning (looking for landscape treasures of course) and one of the shoppers was a mature hottie and she had knee pads on that were down around her calves (it's true).- Wearing kind of a work out outfit but not definite. Casual wear that could go in the gym.

Needless to say, I did NOT think it was FUNNY. I was not laughing at her and I did not automatically think she had a disability... "YEA BABY! You wear whatever you want!"

If I had had a helmet on, I might have gone up to her and asked about the knee pads. :D

The helmet thing was funny, gotta admit. Matter of fact I read this thread the other day & today a HVAC guy comes in to do some work and he's got on knee pads & goggles I LMAO thinking of this!!!!!!!!!! Right or wrong, it's a rip!

Kinda like one day I slipped on about my 6th step up (walking down) the outside stairs to my house. It was wet out of course & since I had momentum my arse pretty much thumped on every stair till I hit ground. It was like slow motion in my head...............when - is - my - arse - gonna - stop - hitting - these - blessed - frickin - stairs - I - can't - stop!!!!!!!!!!

I'm sure to the casual observer it would have been hilarious. Even I was rolling after I walked a step or two & realized I was'nt injured.

Was looking for a new employee last year. I decided to hire, let's call him a mentally challenged person. Every stop we made, I could not keep him from trimming the yard next to the one we were cutting. I even tried setting the orange cones up as boundaries. This didn't help. The last straw was when I was cutting a large back yard, came back to the front, he trimmed the properties on both sides of the one I was cutting. I felt real bad that he was not working out, and told him this, but brought him home when it was time for lunch.

I wear my helmet on every lawn. Helps when I run into the side of a house at 12 MPH.

Anyone wearing a helmet while mowing probably shouldn't be operating anything with an engine to begin with.

As for the guy saying that if you had a kid with a handicap and they were being laughed at and you couldn't do anything. One really easy solution. Kick the kids rear end. Then all the other kids would not make fun of him to his face because they would all say "there is the kid that acts a little odd, but his daddy really packs a whallop so I aint gonna make fun of him anymore"

Once again, I have solved all the problems. Maybe I could have a show like that Dr. Phil.

Lot's of post's here get misinterpreted. Not enough time to type every thought as to be politically correct. The few posts I do type, not going to type half a book as to explain every view. Thought your post was hysterical, although I do not mean the fellow any harm. I also laugh about sir trim alot that I had for an employee for half a day, and I don't mean to disrespect him. It's the situation that I laugh at now, not him. So people lighten up a bit.

By the way, sir trim alot was not handicapped. Even had a high school degree.
