seeding shady lawns, when the best time

i was always told (and i do) that seeding early spring (march april) is the best time to seed shady lawns.
I AM IN NEW JERSEY
but what to do with lawns that are shady and the home owner wonts a seed job now.

i hate to wait till spring and give up the work. i need the work now ,but i wont the job to turn out right.
what do you guys do?

I do all of mine in they fall an fall only unless it's burmuda then in june .reason is the summer heat tends to kill young tender grass that hasn't had time to develop a good root structure.
