I see alot written about these eXmark mowers and am seriously considering purchasing one.I presently own a JD LT150,and really like it,but it's become obvious to me after being in this business for a short time that I'm going to need at least one nice, large lawn tractor, but not too big.Right now my few accounts are relatively small residential ones.I would like be able to handle larger properties if those opportunities come my way,and be able to complete jobs like that in a reasonable amount of time.
I believe what I need is like a mid-sized lawn tractor. My dilemma is that I really like my LT 150;it's reliable, extremely maneuverable and makes a very nice cut.I've never used an eXmark, though, but based on what I've read they must be totally awesome machines.
So if some of you guys could give me your opinions I would really appreciate it: eXmark,John Deere or something else.Why?Thanks. Jim

I occasionally (rarely) use a JD LT155 with power flow catcher on small yards but on the bigger stuff, its speed and quality of cut. I've never used a Z but I can see how they'd be quick around a yard and cut very well no doubt but from what I read here, they have there limitations like slopes etc. If your land is relatively flat go a Z'd but if hilly, look elsewhere. For the record, I use a JD X595 because of that reason. Of course this is IMHO and no doubt will be told other wise.

Why do you feel the need for a tractor? try out a 36 inch walk behind w/sulky. I think you will like the speed and comfort. MUCH faster to mow with than the tractor. But thn I may be biased!!
besides you would still have the JD 150. I was making this same decision a couple months ago, and am glad I got the w.b. but your case may be different.

Why not look at the John Deere Quik trak... handle the larger jobs quikcly yet agile enough to handle the smaller ones too , uless you cant get a 48" through the gate......

what mvnfr8 said ,i have a 36inch exmark walkbehind with a velkie x2. nearly all of my accounts are small residential and there is simply no comparison between what is essentially a homeowners lawnmower and a commercial model. i know because ive used both.

I have a JD LT155, This year I got a eXmark Lazer Z 52" 27HP Kohler MUCH faster, MUCH better cut, and the 27HP is very helpful since I mulch most of the year.

There are a few folks cutting with JD tractors around here but soon to be extinct cause they can 't match quality done by true commercial machines. Get a WB/sulky or a Ztr, try both before you decide, really a must of " both" if you want to stay strong and profitable in this biz.
Don't haul tractor around town, it ain't worth doing.

The eXmark is not a lawn tractor. It is a ZTR (zero turn radius) mower. It will smoke a lawn tractor with the same deck size. I realize JD is a top brand, but when it comes to mowing, go with eXmark, it's built like a tank. As someone else posted, it will pay for itself. You'll be able to mow more and the extra expense is tax deductible!

Exmark makes the best mowers in my opinion. Ive used a few riders and one hydro walk behind made by exmark and have no complaints. Right know I have a bobcat w/b and like it but the exmarks are much better. Great cut and built like tanks

I can't reply on the JD because I've never used one. But, like you I wondered what all of this Exmark fuss was about-these guys are NUTS for these things! So I demoed an 03' last week. Absolutey night and day difference to my Surfer-no ifs ands or buts. I'm now counting the days till I get an 04' Lazer Z.

My dad has a X595 John Deere and loves it. The thing is I can mow about 25% faster when I am on my Gravely Zero turn with the same deck size. On hills and in the muddy parts near my dad's woods he eats me alive and has had to pull me out before. I like both types of machines, but the have there places. My dad has a loader for it and 3 point hitch with a 540 pto. I think the zero turn has a better quality of cut and I have less trim time. The pricing is close. X595 Price $ 12,500.00 Zero turn 31 hp turbo Gravely was 10,500.00

Absolutly! Both types have there place! I run a X595 and love it also. I have lawns that a Z'd couldnt touch due to steepness etc. But on the other hand, I also have wide open level areas that a Z'd would kick my butt! The X595 does a good enough job for me at a pretty good pace so for the moment, I happy!

As far as prices go, I bought my JD for approx $9500 US. Thats straight though with 54" deck! Not bad considering the shipping etc! Couldnt get a Z'd for that......... No way!

It looks like most people are comparing the eXmark Z to a JD tractor... Of course that is like comparing apples to oranges, both are good, but shouldn't be compared. Now if you are looking at eXmark Z's, try comparing them to the new JD Z's, the 737, 757, 777 and 797... Those are more than comparable to eXmark Z's. I demo'd both and found the Deere would simply outperform the eXmark, especially in tall thick grass conditions. In fact, the JD rep mowed over the eXmark discharge and uncut grass and the machine never slowed down, WOW!!!

I say, just make sure you are comparing like machines to like machines...

I am not sure, but I think John Deere bought Great Dane. You might be getting a DANE with a different paint job. If this is the case, and they have not made massive improvements. I feel you will not be happy. I had problems galore with my DANE. Problems involved bts, electrical, and quality of cut.
